From the Desk of Dr. Dubec...
Is it possible that summer vacation will officially arrive in 48 days?  It's already the fourth quarter with springtime tempting everyone outdoors when weather permits.  This is the time of year when days go by with even more speed because of end-of-the-year preparations.  Our district has many upcoming events marking the end of the year including fine arts festivals, National Honor Society Inductions, choral and band concerts, Band Awards Banquet, various field trips, and of course, graduation.  With the warmer weather, increased activities, and longer hours of daylight, it can be difficult for kids to stay focused on their studies.  Please enjoy everything spring has to offer, but try keeping children to a normal routine with a reasonable bedtime schedule to keep kids on track with their schoolwork.

While students may already be making giant X's on home calendars eagerly anticipating their vacation, parents may be wondering how to make their summer break more constructive. It's not too soon to consider the many summer camps offered by Palos 118. Registration is now open for Athletic Camps, Technology Camp, and Band Camp on the Web Store

Other upcoming district events of particular interest to parents include the spring Rosemarie's Attic Resale Event April 29, 30, and May 1 at West. The Educational Foundation is still accepting donations of gently used spring and summer clothes, accessories, sporting goods, and books at the administrative office and all of the schools.  PFA volunteers are hard at work planning the District 118 Annual Golf Outing June 11 at Water's Edge in Worth.  Information regarding sponsorship and registration can be found on the Golf Outing link in the Cardinal Courier.

Whether it's enjoying a ballgame, taking a bike ride, or a having weekend barbecue, enjoy the springtime and everything it offers with your families.  A friendly reminder though, please keep your children in a daily routine so they can remain sharp and focused as the school year winds down to a close.

Sincerely,
Dr. Joseph Dubec, Ed.D.,J.D.

Fifth Grade Students Attend
 "Step-Up Day" at South
5th grade step up
Fifth grade students from Palos East and West took a field trip to their future school, Palos South for "Step-Up Day" April 13.  To minimize anxiety entering middle school in the upcoming year, the prospective sixth graders were given a mini-orientation at South where they learned about school rules, schedules, and extracurricular activities.  They were also treated to performances by Palos South's Jazz Band, Choir, and Percussion Group.
