Drawing lab

Arts and Humanities hosts a summer drawing lab class starting June 10

The Department of Arts and Humanities will host figure drawing labs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays this summer beginning June 10 in room S-1100, One Main Building (take the One Main East elevator, north side, to the 11th floor).

Each session's first hour will be devoted to short poses, which is good for beginners, and the second hour to a longer pose. All faculty, staff and students can attend at no cost. A $5 donation per session to pay the model is appreciated. Susan Baker, associate professor, said anyone can learn to draw the figure. No experience is necessary, only a desire to draw.

Participants should bring newsprint or drawing paper, vine charcoal and a kneaded eraser. Participants may also want to buy a drawing board. These materials may be purchased at Texas Art Supply or the Art Supply on Main. Easels are provided. Facilities Management fire safety systems testing will continue through June 3

Facilities Management will perform semi-annual testing and maintenance of the campus fire detection / notification / suppression systems and related elevator fire service re-call, air handler shut-downs, fire-door hold-open devices and stair pressurization controls starting today through June 3 in all campus buildings.

This testing must be performed during normal business hours due to the size of the systems, the contractors involved and the cost of the labor required to perform the work. Please consider this an opportunity for the university community to become familiar with these fire and life safety systems and the campus emergency public address system.

An announcement will be made over the PA system prior to the alarms being sounded to inform the occupants of the test. The alarms and strobe lights will then be engaged briefly and certified by the technicians. An announcement will be made after the conclusion of each segment of the audible and visual alarm testing.
