Stories from previous Skylines
Mandatory training deadline is Jan. 31

The deadline for completing the FY11 Mandatory Training is Jan. 31, 2011. Mandatory training is required of all UHD employees - faculty, staff, student workers and temporary employees paid through the payroll system.

All mandatory training is available at www.uh.edu/employeetraining.  It requires your employee ID number as the user ID, and your date of birth (mmddyyyy) as the password, unless you have changed this in the past.   Do not try to log-in through PASS.   To get support with password resets or technical issues, please contact Technology Support Services at 713-743-1411.

All employees are required to complete the FY11-Training Acknowledgement (This acknowledges responsibility for the information provided in the five primary trainings - Ethics, EEO, FERPA, Fraud, and Secure Our Systems)

Depending upon your role at the university you may be required to complete additional courses such as the following:

         FY10-External Consulting

FY11-Cash Security Procedures (Finance based role/training)

FY11-Credit Card Data Security (Finance based role/training)

FY11-Credit Card Processing (Finance based role/training)

You will receive a notification of completion via email approximately one week after you have successfully met the criteria for your training courses.  You may verify completion by visiting your training record in P.A.S.S.  To learn how to review your completion in P.A.S.S, please refer to the following site:

http://www.uh.edu/adminservices/PASS/trainingsummary.htm

Please allow 24-48 hours for your records to update before logging into PASS to verify you have completed the training.

Remember that any system employee who fails to complete the required training for fiscal year 2011 by the published deadline of Jan. 31, 2011 will not have met their job expectations and will therefore not be eligible for merit increases as stated in SAM 02.A.11 and SAM 02.A.26.

Testing and maintenance of campus fire detection, notification, suppression systems scheduled through Jan. 14

Facilities Management will perform semi-annual testing and maintenance of the campus fire detection /notification / suppression systems (and related elevator fire service re-call, air handler shut-downs, fire-door hold-open devices and stair pressurization controls) through Jan. 14.

All campus buildings will be addressed during this period. Due to the size of the systems, the contractors involved and the cost of the labor required to perform the work, this test must be performed during normal business hours. Please consider this an opportunity for the university community to become familiar with these fire and life safety systems and the campus emergency public address system.

An announcement will be made over the PA system prior to alarms being sounded to inform occupants of testing. Alarms and strobe lights will then be engaged briefly and certified by technicians. An announcement will be made after the conclusion of each segment of audible and visual alarm testing.

This inspection is a requirement of the National Fire Protection Association. If you have any concerns, please contact T.C. Wilson, Director of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing, at extension 8055. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Skyline eNews is produced Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the school year by the Office of Public Affairs, and you will receive the Skyline eNews via email while you are a UHD employee. We update our email list weekly. The eNews is a University faculty and staff newsletter and is designed to keep employees informed of university activities, policy changes, human resources issues, business office information and security information.

The deadline for submitting items is 9 a.m. the day before publication. Past issues are archived on UHD's website. The archive link is in the lower right column.

We are always interested in your activities. Let us know at least 24 hours in advance so we can include your event in the Skyline eNews. We also try to photograph University activities, but we need to know when and where your event is taking place. Email skylinenews@uhd.edu or call Public Affairs at 713-221-8010.
