Registration opens Dec. 1 for UHD's first online Winter Term
UHD will hold its first online Winter Term from Dec. 27, 2010, to Jan. 14, 2011.
Currently enrolled UHD students will be able to take one course during the session, and registration for Winter Term will open on Dec. 1.

Expert's presentation considers how accounting fraud was confronted at AIG
UHD's Risk Management and Compliance Department will host Gordon Massie, former head of AIG's Leveraged Finance Group from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in room C-1, Commerce Street Building, where he will discuss:
- AIG's accounting practices for its high yield bonds
- The discovery of accounting fraud
- How accounting fraud was confronted
Massie has been a regular speaker at high-yield bond and investment management conferences in the United States and Europe. He has worked in the financial/investment business for 30 years with companies including Texas Commerce Bancshares, Prudential Insurance Company, American General Corporation, and American International Group (AIG). At American General, he was responsible for the management of American General's $3 billion high-yield bond portfolio for 16 years.
Massie earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley. He is in the process of publishing his first book titled, "The Whistleblower's Dilemma.Confronting Fraud at AIG".

Office of Admission hosts 'It's Not too Latte" on Saturday, Dec. 11
UHD's Office of Admissions is hosting the "It's Not too Latte" event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 11, so potential students can apply for admission and receive admission assistance on campus.
To be admitted on the spot, a potential student should bring a check or money order for the $35 application fee and a copy of his or her official transcripts.
Individuals also can apply in advance online at www.applytexas.org. Paper applications will be available the day of the event. For additional information, contact a UHD admissions counselor at 713-221-8522 or email uhdadmit@uhd.edu.

Student Initiated Project production features comedy in English and Spanish
UHD senior, Emil Niz, will present his Student Initiated Project production of the play, "La Señora Martín", at 8 p.m. Dec. 2, 3 and 4 in the O'Kane Theatre, room N-364, One Main Building.
Enjoy an evening of laughter with high school student, Martina, in the world of James Day High School and see if her teacher, Mrs. Martín, will succeed in forcing her to "never speak in Spanish again!" The play contains dialogue in Spanish and English and requires no reservations. The seating is open and first come - first seated. Admission is free.

Arts and Humanities Dept. sponsors holiday music, cookies Dec. 6 and 7
Harpist Laura Smith and the Chancel Bells Quartet of Houston's First Presbyterian Church will perform holiday music from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7, near the large Christmas tree on the third floor, Academic Building.
Free cookies will be available. The Arts and Humanities Department sponsors the annual event. For information, contact Carrie Allen, assistant professor of music, at 713-226-5550.

UHD's MS150 Cycling Team sponsors jersey design contest for this year's ride
UHD's MS150 Cycling Team is sponsoring a jersey design contest in preparation for this year's MS150 ride in the spring.
Information, rules and regulations are included in the linked document. All submissions should go to Lea Campbell at campbellc@uhd.edu.
The cycling team encourages individuals interested in riding in this unique event to get their registration in quickly.
Event organizers register participants until the 13,000 rider limit is reached. Initial registrants filled 80 percent of the openings. Team UHD members say registration will likely pick up again and if interested UHD riders do not sign up soon, it may be too late.
The Team UHD roster is at 16 members and they look forward to an increase before the end of the year. Please spread the word to students, staff, faculty and alumni.

Alley Theatre's "A Christmas Carol" features two UHD faculty members
The Alley Theatre's annual production of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" features two UHD faculty members.
Adjunct Professor David Rainey plays Mrs. Dilber and Marley's Ghost, while Adjunct Professor John Johnston plays Mr. Topper and a Ghostly Apparition.
The production is running currently, and plays through Dec. 27. Tickets can be purchased online at alleytheatre.org, or by calling the box office at 713-220-5700, then 1 for tickets.

UHD's online e-services portal got a new name Nov. 22
UHD's online portal to e-services, UOnline, became MyUHD on Nov. 22.
The access to UHD services will not change, only the name and look of the login. Changing the name will pave the way for UHD to better group and market online degrees and classes under a UHD Online umbrella later this academic year.
During the next few weeks, individuals across campus will be working to make the switch on web pages across the university.

Commencement regalia order deadline was Nov. 24, rush fees now apply
The December 2010 Commencement ceremony is scheduled for Dec.19, and the UHD Bookstore staff wants everyone to be ready.The order deadline for regalia was Nov. 24. After this date, an additional $10 fee will be added to orders for rush shipping.
Orders placed before Nov. 24 should arrive the week of Dec. 8 and you will be contacted to pick up your regalia.
For any orders placed after Dec. 1, there will be no guarantee regalia items will arrive prior to the day of Commencement.
The UHD Bookstore requires prepayment for all orders and accepts cash, all major credit cards (with a valid identification), or a charge to your department via PCard or purchase voucher with prior approval from your department.The regalia rental fees are:
Master's Unit Complete - $60.98

Doctorate - $109.98
