IT is working to solve a virus impacting UHD computers; report problems to the Help Desk

Information Technology is currently addressing multiple calls of a new virus infection on several university PCs.  Although McAfee VirusScan (anti-virus program already installed on all university PCs) has been detecting and automatically removing the virus, we are getting reports of reoccurrences of the same infection, and in some cases with a new/different variant of the same virus.

We are currently working on removing the virus from all PCs that were reported to us, and are also working closely with our anti-virus vendor to quickly identify and eradicate the source(s).

If you get a pop-up message on your PC of a virus infection, please contact the Help Desk (, X3000, 713-221-8031) as soon as possible.

UHD will test Emergency Text Messaging System on Friday, Nov. 12

UHD will conduct a test of its emergency text messaging system on Friday, Nov. 12. UHD will use the text messaging system and other communication tools to keep the University Community informed in case of a serious emergency.

Please take the time now to register your cell phone to receive emergency text messages.   If you have not previously opted in to the system, you may do so by going to and clicking on the UHD Students or UHD Faculty & Staff button on the right-hand side of the page.

Many faculty, staff and students have already signed up to receive emergency text messages. If you have already opted in, no further action is required at this time.

When you receive emergency text messages, standard text messaging charges apply as defined by your plan and cell phone service provider.
