The Writing & Reading Center (the WRoCk) will host an ENG 1302  'Don't Panic' Workshop from 10 to 11 a.m. today
in the WRoCk, Room 925-North, to help students learn how to document and format their research papers.
SGA Town Hall Meeting scheduled for April 21

A Student Government Association Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for noon Wednesday, April 21, in the Special Events Center.
The agenda includes a discussion on the name selection choices and the Metro expansion and provides an opportunity to hear from SGA candidates running for office.

Cheerleading clinic, tryouts set for April 27 and May 1

Tryouts for UHD's Cheerleading Squad are coming up May 1 and to help interested students prepare a clinic is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 27 in the Student Life Center.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in the fall of 2010, must be in good academic standing with a GPA of at least 2.0, must attend team practices and games, must have a positive attitude and be a team player and be responsible for appropriate team fees upon making the team.

Summer service-learning project offers stipend for students

A summer service-learning project with a stipend of $500 to redesign the Texas Campus Compact (TXCC) website is available.

This would also be excellent for an internship, said Jean Dewitt, UHD Director of Community Engagement. Two students with a background in computer science or graphic arts will be selected from member institutions and may be geographically separated as they will work as a virtual team.

The new site should incorporate use of technology to include videos, pod casts, social media, and interactive navigation. Deadline for proposals is May 21. For more information contact Dewitt at

WRoCk hosts two 'Don't Panic' sessions on documenting and formatting research papers

The Writing & Reading Center (the WRoCk) will host two sessions of the the ENG 1302  'Don't Panic' Workshop next week to help students learn how to ensure their research paper is properly documented and formatted.    
The first session will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today and the second from 4 to 5 p.m. April 21 in the WRoCk, Room 925-North, One Main Building. While this workshop is designed specifically for ENG 1302 students, any student needing help with documenting and formatting a research project is welcome to attend. JoAnn Pavletich, associate professor of English, will lead the workshop sessions.

Earth Day events scheduled for April 22

UHD will celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 with free festivities on the South Deck including information booths, hands on exhibits, alternative transportation exhibits, green vendors and more.

Order commencement regalia now

Spring 2010 Commencement is at 6 p.m. May 17 and faculty who plan to participate must place orders for regalia no later than April 30.

After April 30, an additional fee of $10 will be added to orders for rush shipping. No rental order placed after May 7 can be guaranteed for delivery. Rental regalia orders will start arriving at the bookstore the week of May 10. Faculty will be notified when items arrive. Prepayment is required and can be made via cash or major credit card with valid identification. The regalia rental fees are as follow:

Culture on the Bayou and Bayou Bash draw crowds to enjoy music, festivities


Student organizations could showcase their activities and raise funds at Culture on the Bayou during the day and students, faculty and staff enjoyed crawfish and Zydeco music in the evening at the Bayou Bash.

Sport & Fitness 'Balls, Bands and More' offers training options without weights or machines 

Sports & Fitness is sponsoring a Healthy Workshop from 11:15 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 21, Balls, Bands & More at a location to be announced.

The workshop is free to UHD students, faculty and staff. You don't have to lift free weights or use machines to achieve the benefits that resistance training provides. Balls and bands are great to help you balance a cardio workout with exercises aimed at toning the muscles in your body. Even those who have never exercised will walk away with hands on experience to benefit from balls, bands and more. Bands will be given to those in attendance.

Academic Assessment offers
Constructing Rubrics today 

The Office of Academic Assessment will host the second of three Constructing Rubrics sessions from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today  in room N-1099.

Academic Assessment plans a series of workshops and seminars throughout the remainder of the Spring 2010 semester. Training class provides updates and overview of contract administration

UHD will offer two contract administration classes on April 21 and 22 for any University employees involved in the contracting process. The first session (Course Code: UHD037, #0008) will be from 9  to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, in Room 1099-N. The second session (#0009) will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the same location.
