Attendees at OptiPro Open House are Optimistic About Future
|
OptiPro Systems hosted its annual Technology Open House and Steak-Out on October 21st and 22nd, and this year was perhaps the most successful one yet. Over 200 people from 85 companies showed up to enjoy steak lunch or dinner and to witness advanced multi-axis machine tools in action. DMG's Sprint 20 and HSC 55, Hurco's VM10, VM10U, and TMM8, as well as Yama Seiki's AF 1000 and GA 2600 were all on display this year ( Click here to watch the HSC 55 perform 5-Axis contouring of "Claudia"). The newly incorporated technical presentations were also well received among visitors to the open house. These presentations helped attendees expand their knowledge of several different machines and machining concepts. Sandvik Coromant's presentation on the "Modern Art of Milling" gave listeners their insight on how to best utilize machine tools using the latest cutting-tool techniques, including demonstrations of dry machining. DMG enlightened potential customers with their HSC 55 High Speed Cutting machine as well as their Sprint 20 lathe. Hurco explained 5-Axis Machining, specifically how to start benefiting from this latest technology in your company's operations. There was also a technical presentation on Dynamic Mill Toolpath, a new feature of Mastercam X4. The most positive news from this year's Open House was the optimism regarding current and future business trends of most companies in attendance. When asked how their company was doing, the vast majority said that business is stabilizing or increasing. If you missed the event and want to check out pictures that were taken throughout the two days, go to the new OptiPro Systems Facebook page by clicking on the following link...

Babbitt Bearings Runs Yama Seiki Machines to Set Itself Apart From the Competition
|
Babbitt Bearings Inc., located in Syracuse, New York, produces precision OEM bearings for high speed rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines, chillers, electric motors, gear drives, and pumps. What distinguishes Babbitt Bearings from its competitors is that babbitt is an alloy of tin and various other elements that create a very smooth bearing surface. Most of their products includes this tin-based liner. Babbitt Bearings depends on its Yama Seiki machines to produce their products, and they are certainly satisfied with its performance as well as its precision.
What made Babbitt Bearings choose Yama Seiki in the first place? "We were looking for a moderately priced, medium to heavy duty, accurate machining center," said Bob McConnell, who is their manufacturing technician. "We looked at a lot of the competitors and found that the Yama Seiki had a lot of certain aspects built into it which would work very well in our area."
Because of how well the three Yama Seiki machines (Two machining centers and one live tooling lathe) perform, Mr. McConnell said they are constantly running. "They are our most used CNC's. They're in business every day. We keep our Yama Seiki machines very busy, and they do a great job."
And if for some reason there is an issue with one of their Yama Seiki machines, it's never something that the service technicians at OptiPro or at Yama Seiki can't handle. "If we have an issue, it's usually answered within a couple of hours either by the guys at OptiPro or by calling Yama Seiki directly. We're able to get back into business quickly," said Mr. McConnell.
"We're quite happy with the Yama Seiki machines compared to some of the other machines that we have had and that we still do have. All in all, it was a good investment."
