DaVinci Prototypes Excited About DMG Machine |
Quick Facts:
Name: DaVinci Prototypes
Location: Rochester, NY
Number of Employees: 5
Year Established: 1999
Specializing In: Product Development
DaVinci Prototypes purchased a DMU 50 by DMG over a year ago. We visited DaVinci and sat down with the president, Marty Martina, to ask some general questions about how his new 5-Axis machine was broadening his manufacturing capabilities. As it turns out, he had nothing but positive things to say.
DaVinci Prototypes specializes in product development, but does some design work as well. Based on the operations of the company, the decision to purchase the DMU 50 over machines from other competitors was an easy one. Said Mr. Martina, "The layout of the machine was perfectly conducive to the demands of what our customers had for their products that needed to be machined. We looked at a lot of other machines that were either a much larger machine or had much smaller volumetric areas. The DMU 50 was a smaller machine that had a large volumetric area of machining." The end result for DaVinci Prototypes: They got the best of both worlds.
When asked whether purchasing the DMU 50 was a good investment, he went on to say that he is noticing "an immediate payoff" from purchasing the machine because "not only does it allow you to get your work done, it attracts different work, more work."
Apart from performance, the cleanliness of the machine is something that impressed Mr. Martina as well. "I love the fact that it has linear ways with grease instead of oil. It's extremely low maintenance, it just runs, runs, runs. We have customer requirements that we're not allowed to contaminate parts with oil or coolant, so we run them with that machine because it's virtually spotless."
He concluded the interview by reemphasizing his satisfaction with the DMU 50. "It's easy to set up, the controller's powerful, it runs great, I have no complaints about it, literally." |

OptiPro to Host Free Mastercam X4 Webinar "Power Hour" |
OptiPro will be offering a free Mastercam X4 webinar to those interested in learning more about the new version. The two topics that will be discussed during the "Power Hour" will be Dynamic Planes and Dynamic Mill.
Dynamic planes is a new method for defining construction planes (Cplanes), tool planes (Tplanes), and work coordinates system (WCS) in Mastercam X4. You can now define the desired plane using an interactive graphical gnomon to establish the plane's origin and orientation.
Dynamic mill gives you the ability to utilize the entire flute length of the cutting tool, saving both time and money. It also offers flexible retract options to keep the tool down in smaller parts and rapid retract on larger parts.
The date and time of the Mastercam X4 Webinar "Power Hour" is September 11th at 11:00 PM. To sign up, please contact our Mastercam technicians by emailing them at Mastercam@optipro.com. |
