With the release of Mastercam X4 comes some very useful enhancements. For example, with
Dynamic Xform, users can now manipulate geometry easier than ever. The user's geometry can be imported into Mastercam from any orientation, then quickly set up to the desired position using the
gnomon. When activated and placed on the drawing, the
gnomon automatically aligns the part with the desired axis. Mastercam's
Dynamic Planes works similar to the
Dynamic Xform except that in this case, the
gnomon is placed on the CAD model in the proper orientation for machining. Users taking advantage of rotary axis (such as 4th axis and horizontal machines) can now easily define machining areas on all sides of the model. Mastercam X4 has also brought the introduction of
Dynamic Mill. This tool-path can be found in the 2-D high speed sections of Mastercam's tool-paths. A roughing tool-path,
Dynamic Mill is designed to take a full depth cut in the area to be machined, eliminating the need for multiple depth cuts. During the cutting process,
Dynamic Mill creates lines and arcs instead of splines for smoother and faster interpolation. You can select micro lift and throughout the cutting process the tool will retract slightly off the bottom while moving to its next cut. This decreases the amount of heat being put into the part and also helps with chip evacuation. Various entry methods along with customizable entry speeds and feeds give you flexibility regardless of the material or cutter style being used.
Dynamic Mill is not restricted to "closed boundaries." Its functionality is just as effective in an open pocket situation. After minimal time invested in using the Dynamic Mill, you will find that it is a very useful tool-path.
