The e-Servicer | Monthly communication from United Servicers Association |
|
|
Greetings!
The month of November focuses around reflection and consumption. Veteran's Day is a time to reflect on the past and present sacrifices of our armed forces who have given so much to protect our freedom and keep us safe; they deserve to be remembered by all of us.
Thanksgiving is a time for sharing with our family and friends as we enjoy a sumptuous feast. It's the perfect time to sit back, look around the table and reflect on the joy that comes from being with your loved ones. After your great meal, kick back and get ready for football!
Black Friday is another day of consumption as millions of people converge on malls and create a frenzy of spending. This traditional beginning of the holiday shopping season continues to change and evolve with e-tailers and major discounters offering their BF sales earlier than in the past.
This is also a good time for you to reflect on your business. As an independent servicer, you owe it to the success of your business to invest in continuing education and to network with your peers. While you can look back in November and pretty much know how your business fared in 2010, what about 2011? The best way to insure a profitable 2011 is to attend the Appliance and Service Training Institute (ASTI) February 9-12.
Sincerely,
e-Servicer Newsletter Team United Servicers Association |

RE: Glass Cooktop Replacement Alert!!!
Dear APPLIANCE REPAIR SPECIALISTS,
Replacing Ceramic Glass Cook tops for being Dirty, Stained or Discolored may be in violation of Whirlpool's Warranty Policy, if replacement is made after 30 days from purchase date. The warranty clearly states that Cosmetic Damage is not covered under warranty unless reported to Whirlpool within 30 days from the date of purchase. Whirlpool will reject Cooktop claims for these cosmetic reasons after 30 days of purchase.

Controling Your Parts Investment
By Dennis Fraser, Reliable Parts, District Manager

You could be considered one of my best customers. You frequently place orders and often visit our stores to spend even more money buying parts. The problem is, I know you are buying parts that you don't have to, and I want to help.
A successful appliance repair company needs very few things to operate. All you need are customers, good staff and parts. I would be prepared to bet that you spend a fair bit of time managing how and where you find customers, as well as caring for their needs. It would be a safe bet that you also spend some time acquiring and fine tuning your technical skills as well. As for the third leg of this chair - it is very often the most ignored, yet potentially the most expensive or lucrative consideration - your parts inventory.

How Higher Taxes Will Impact Your Small Business
By Gail Buckner, FOXBusiness

What's the most common form of business in this country? (Hint: it's not "corporation.") In fact, the United States is the only developed nation in the world where the majority of companies are not what the IRS calls "C" corporations -- the kind that make up the S&P 500. Instead, according to Brad Close of the National Federation of Independent Business [NFIB], 75% fall into the category of a "pass-through" entity.
They go by names such as "S Corp.," "limited liability corporation [LLC]," "partnership" and "sole proprietorship." Though each has a different structure, all of these business forms have one thing in common: profits and losses show up on the tax return of their owner(s). In other words, income from the business is taxed at "ordinary income" tax rates for an individual.

Correction :
In USA's study on the Access To Information published last month we stated that Samsung provided technical assistantace telephone support to non-authorized service providers. This was incorrect. Only Samsung authorized warranty service providers may call the tech help line and must provide their service center code when calling. USA regrets any confusion over this error.

USA's F.I.R.S.T. Peer Group Interviewd on
Atlanta Georgia
Comedian Peter Dominick turned news commenter interviewed the United Servicers Association's F.I.R.S.T.peer group ( For Insight Refinement Service Together) when they were taking a break from their quarterly meeting for lunch at the world famous Varsity Restaurant in Atlanta, GA. They were quite surprised to see the CNN logo on the microphones and a camera crew surrounding their lunch table. Dominick was interviewing local opinion asking, "Can Democrats and Republicans get together and solve some of our country's problems?" He interviewed the peer group asking, "Why do you cooperate with each other and share common goals?" The interview aired nationally on CNN Saturday, November 6, 2010 on Peter Dominic, What The Week. The F.I.R.S.T. Peer Group was formed at the ASTI convention in 2010 and has helped members get a handle on their finances; collaborate on marketing ideas and helping each other with development of their businesses.
The F.I.R.S.T. peer group was in Atlanta on Thursday to meet with executives at Assurant, a warranty provider, at their world headquarters to discuss the recent requirement for background checks and drug screening as well as the treatment of independent servicers.
A new peer group will be forming at the upcoming ASTI 2011 for participants of the convention in San Diego, California on February 9-12, 2011 |
