Welcome to the United Servicers Association e-Servicer Newsletter
Greetings!
Welcome to the sixth edition of the USA e-Servicer published exclusively for members and friends of United Servicers Association.
We dedicate this 6th edition to Thanksgiving Day. A time for communal
thanksgiving, feeling gratitude and lavish feasts. It is a time to remember
the pilgrims. The original pilgrims celebrated the autumn harvest with a
feast of thanks. We wish you and yours a very happy and safe thanksgiving holiday.
Our mission at the United Servicers Association is to develop and provide services and programs to assist members in building strong businesses in North America's competitive environment. This publication is just one of the many ways we achieve our mission. We hope you find this edition informative and educational.
Sincerely yours, The USA Team

Manufacturer Techline Phone Numbers*
Ever find yourself with no where to turn for help? Here is a handy list of OEM technical help telephone numbers. *Some of these numbers will no doubt require a servicer number to get information. However, USA suggests that you still try to call the numbers for repair assistance. Many of the manufacturers are now opening their technical help lines to servicers outside their warranty service networks. Go ahead and make the attempt to get information to repair the appliance for your client. If nothing else, a phone call will demonstrate to that manufacturer that there is a need to provide technical information to all servicers. It is the consumer who finally decides whom to call into his or her home for service on their major appliances and that servicer will not always be authorized for warranty on the brands involved. If you have additional numbers not listed below, please forward them to administration@unitedservicers.com. It Just Isn't Working? Some File for Customer Divorce
By RAYMUND FLANDEZ, Wall Street Journal
It's the beginning of the tough-love era. Some small-business owners
are ending relationships with aggressive customers who ask for more
discounts and concessions or want more leeway on payment time.

How to Deduct Your Vehicle Expenses
By Bonnie Lee
| Tax Tips | www.Entrepreneur.com Dan,
a new client, arrived at my office for his tax appointment. He had
dutifully filled out the tax organizer I had mailed to him. His
penmanship was like a draftsman's--perfectly aligned, square, and
consistent. I flipped to the first
page of data. Dan had copied every figure from every box of his W-2
onto the organizer despite my telling him he needn't do that. Just give
me the W-2; no need to do any copy work. And, like most tax pros, I
prefer to work from the document itself. The numbers written onto an
organizer could possibly be transposed or illegible. Hey, no problem.
Lots of folks like to mark up the organizer; I just hate to see them go
to all that extra work. I flipped a few more pages and found that Dan has a side business as a computer consultant.
He has a home office and travels quite a bit to his clients' places of
business. I turned to the home office worksheet, and lo and behold, Dan
had actually prorated his mortgage interest, insurance, property taxes,
and utilities between personal and business use of the home. Poor guy.
Another waste of time since the tax software does that for me
automatically. To read the full article click here |
Cash for Clunkers Letter to WSJ
Dean,
That
is a fantastic letter you sent to the Journal (included in the latest
E-Newsletter) in regards to the Appliance "junk" program. Our student
enrollment and list of servicers awaiting new grads in the Seattle area
certainly supports your comments on that point too. We are at the highest
enrollment I have seen in 10 years or more. My partner or I will be at the
Florida ASTI.

Peer Groups

A
peer group is a gathering of like-minded businessmen and women in non-competing markets that gather to help one another run
their respective businesses from time to time. In these meetings it is
common to share and compare financial statements and for members to turn to peers for advice or opinion on a
certain issue they might be experiencing in their businesses. Peer groups
will often collaborate on a group project such as a marketing campaign
and then share in the cost of such development. Peer groups generally
meet on neutral ground on a regularly scheduled basis. Want to join a peer group? Call 1-800-683-2558
We need one more peer to start the next group. If you're thinking about joining a peer group call us now.
