Kadavu Island - This is an undeveloped and pristine island with fantastic reef diving and exciting manta ray dives. Just about the only thing that's paved on the island is the air strip !!!.
It stretches the length of the island and to get to any of the resorts, you have to take a boat around. I visited several properties on this island and found Matava to be the best by far.
It's an award-winning eco lodge with free-standing, solar-powered bures scattered along the water's edge. It's lush and green and lovely. Nothing over the top, just well-done and very comfortable.
The food is fantastic. If you go out on the fishing boat one day, you may be eating sashimi tuna that evening as an appetizer.
They do traditional dancing and music and the oh-so-memorable kava ceremony where everyone sits around drinking kava (a root plant mashed into a powder and added to water. Not the best tasting drink, but it has a numbing effect on your toungue and makes you feel very "relaxed").
Some of the best star-gazing that I can remember was on the dock at Matava. I did three dives in other areas around Kadavu and only two with Matava, but I tell ya they blew the others out of the water (so to speak).
The coral formations were fantastic. I didn't see any mantas, unfortunately, but we only did that dive once. They do many other activities besides diving as well including sea kayaking, waterfall trekking, village visits, etc.
There is no beach, but it's a great spot to begin a shore dive or go snorkeling. They have renovated their main bure since I have been there and I think it's even nicer than when I was there.
Viti Levu - This is the main island where you will be flying into Nadi. Nadi is on the south western coastline and as you drive south along the coast, you pass through Pacific Harbour on your way to Suva.
Pacific Harbour is the area where you can do the shark diving and is nearby the property that we told you about, Waidroka Bay. I was fortunate enough to experience this resort first-hand as well.
Again, it's not over the top, it's comfortable, relaxing, and an enjoyable place to hang out.
As you drive to Waidroka, you four-wheel through lush jungle which then opens up on a hillside to expose the coastline and Waidroka Bay. The property scatters the hillside, with rooms at the top having fantastic views of the ocean. There are other rooms at ground level with the resort that are distributed throughout the gardens.
The dive shop is located closer to the beach. They provide surf boards and lots of other fun water toys in their shop as well. Centrally located on the property is their swimming pool with hanging bed swing.
You can get a massage by the pool from their in-house massage therapist.
From Waidroka Bay, you can access the Big Fish Encounter shark dive in Beqa Lagoon and you can also access Frigates Passage, a very famous dive in this area.
Pacific Harbour will also provide shopping, white water rafting, sea kayaking, inflatable river kayaking, and zip-lining. Lots of fun for all ages and interests.
Fiji itself is an incredibly friendly country. It is relaxed, laid-back, and one of my favorite places that I have ever been. I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you have any questions about anything.
