ENERGY STARŪ Announcements and What They Mean for You
April 14, 2010
|
Greetings!
Over the last several years, the Energy Star program has become an important part of helping consumers choose energy efficient products. To strengthen the brand and ensure that consumers can continue to trust the Energy Star label, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) are implementing new requirements for products to qualify for and remain a part of the program. From what we've seen, these requirements will include upfront product testing and, in some cases, certification by an approved laboratory or certification body. In addition, all products will be subject to ongoing verification testing to determine that they continue to meet Energy Star requirements over time.
The details of the new Energy Star program are being finalized, and we expect to learn more in the coming weeks. We want you to know that UL Environment is prepared to support you through these changes: our recently launched Energy Efficiency CertificationSM program offers certification to Energy Star requirements, and our global network of laboratories is prepared to help serve your testing needs. You can find more information on these services at our Web site, www.ulenvironment.com.
We are actively following the Energy Star developments--as well as other expanding energy efficiency programs globally, such as Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the European Energy-related Products (ErP) Directive--and will provide those opting into a special e-mail list with the latest updates. Please click here to be added to the mailing list.
We look forward to being your energy efficiency resource for the future and your partner in sustainability. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Stephen H. Wenc President, UL Environment
