"Anicca's Color For Your Day"

Jacob's Ladder, detail

Greetings!

Lately, I was asked to write an Artist Statement.

I would like to share with you what I wrote:

"I define myself as a contemporary spiritual artist.

At the beginning of 2000, after fourteen years of working with kites, aerial designs and sculpture, I left those markets and expanded into canvas, which was receptive enough to capture my heart.

I had no tools, only a passion for integrity, self-expression, depth and unity. Since the only art form that I had formally studied was music, I developed a unique painting style, one that unfolded itself to me step by step. I usually paint on very thin canvas, which I pin to a frame, using the stretching technique for silk. By applying a white medium on the breathing canvas, I can then create a variety of textures that later receive the colors in different, unexpected ways. I paint on the floor using motion and gravity to achieve the effects that I want in that moment. I use acrylic, glass, oil and sparkling paints, adding 23-karat gold leaf and Swarovski crystals to most of my paintings.

My 3-D paintings depict scenes from my inner journey to happiness over the past ten years, and they reflect my deep interest in the spiritual practices that have helped me realize my Self. My more recent paintings have focused on Biblical stories, which are basically emotional, practical tools for inner growth.
A mixture of seemingly contradictory traits-as a mother, an Israeli, a Kabbalist, a Sufi, a Buddhist and an eager spiritual seeker-are only a veil to what I really AM. These days I paint with colors and flute with sounds, and this enables me to be where I AM and who I AM.

My paintings are simply mirrors of my heart".

Jacob's Ladder
  Jacob's Ladder

My last painting is Jacob's Ladder.

In this painting I tried to convey the process of my inner work, as I, subjectively experience it.

The form in white, is the first Hebrew letter- Alef with a numerical value of 1.
Alef, represents the unification of opposites.
As long as I'm in the middle, with no identification to biochemical reactions in my body, I can go up the ladder, step by step,
And reach the top to a higher state of consciousness.
