The HSE Pledge

We are proud to announce we have now joined forces with the HSE's pledge for the Health & Safety of Great Britain;

We, Westminster Compliance,
~ Agree to play our part in reducing the numbers of work-related deaths, injuries and ill-health in Great Britain.
~ Call on employers to put health and safety at the heart of what they do and to take a common sense approach to health and safety.
~ Commit to debunking myths around health and safety that trivialise the impact of injuries, ill health and deaths on individuals and their families.
~ Recognise the importance of health and safety in difficult economic times and the dangers of complacency.
~ Pledge to work with the Health and Safety Executive and its partners to Be Part of the Solution
CDM (Construction Design Management) Regulations

What is this about? Is it important? Who does it affect and does that include me? There are a huge number of questions to ask about health and safety if you are ever involved with any building work.

And this means that architects, decorators, electricians, plumbers and in fact all the "trades" who are part of the building world, the answer is yes, it does include you!

The CDM regulations are very detailed and can be daunting for those businesses unfamiliar with them.  But it is vital that you understand your duties and responsibilities under the CDM Regulations before any work starts.

Prosecutions for breaches of the CDM legislation are unfortunately all too frequent. There are more accidents within construction and maintenance than any other industry and Health and Safety regulations are more relevant than ever.  So ensure that you do not become another statistic.  Call us for more information.

Risk Assesment Concerns

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has now drawn its two year campaign on risk assessments to a close.

The campaign examined the risk assessment attitudes and behaviours of organisations of various sizes across Europe. The findings are somewhat surprising - between 10%-15% of SMEs do not carry out risk assessments despite this being a legal requirement!

And the reasons why? A large percentage of companies just do not deem this necessary and simply do not conduct risk assessments or even documented general workplace checks. This may indicate that SMEs have fewer problems than larger companies, or that they lack awareness and knowledge.

The campaign also bought to light some of the main issues that companies are concerned about in the workplace: accidents, musculoskeletal disorders and stress being the top three - all of which can be less of a concern with a documented risk assessment.
