Free Health & Safety Publications

This month we're saluting the HSE. From September 2009 many of their health and safety guidance publications are to be made free to purchase or download saving businesses money Hurrah!

At Westminster Compliance we're always on the look out to ensure our clients and subscribers are never caught short. The free publications will make a big difference to small buisness who actively use the HSE publications and may even persuade some to start to use this service more. Just keep in mind that even with the back-up and advice of these publications employers still have a legal duty to carry out risk assessments in the workplace and have a health & safety policy in place that is reviewed on an annual basis.

If you are putting together your own health and safety documentation we'd be happy to audit this for you making sure you stay compliant.

Last Months News

Last month saw the largest penalty to date of breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. This penalty was awarded at the Inner London Crown Court for three offences and was awarded to Shell International Ltd for £300,000.

 Fire
Breaches included, blocked escape routes and fire exits, defective fire doors and excessive fire loading. (The fire loading had been dramatically increased because of refurbishments taking place in the upper floors) It was also discovered that Shell's fire risk assessment had not been reviewed or updated since March 2003.
