Featured Feline: Catniss
Catniss came into our care as a stray in the middle of April. She is a very laidback and independent girl who would love to have a window seat where she can watch the world. Catniss is front declawed. She gets along quite well with other cats, so if you're looking for a friend for your feline, Catniss might be the one! |
|
Compatible Canine: Max
Max's owner brought him to us at the beginning of August because he wasn't a good fit for their family. Max has a lot of energy for a little guy. He does not do well with children and can be a little shy. Max may need a little time to warm up to you, but once he knows you, he becomes very attached. He loves to snuggle on your lap and be as close to you as he possibly can. Max likes to be talked to, and he makes a very good listener. This loyal little guy would make a good apartment dog. Stop in and meet him!

Greetings!
It is very exciting to be part of an organization and a community that cares so much about its animals. The Cedar Valley Humane Society's staff and volunteers work tirelessly to care for over 2,000 animals each year. I find it very encouraging to see these hardworking people motivated by an awareness of the importance of the work they do.
As the new Executive Director of the Cedar Valley Humane Society, I am fortunate to be joining an organization that has great people and programs already in place. Upon this foundation, we will expand and improve our services to the people and animals of Eastern Iowa.
Being new to the area, I want to take this opportunity to convey how impressed I am with the people I have met. I am very proud to now be a part of this outstanding community, and I look forward to making positive contributions to local and state animal welfare efforts.
I want to thank the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers for the time and energy they have devoted to this organization and the animals in our care. I also want to express a very special thank you to all of our donors and supporters. The combined efforts and generosity of all of you are making a difference for hundreds of homeless animals every month.
On behalf of the animals-
Chuck Tourtillott Executive Director P.S. You can change the life of an animal today! Please take a moment and donate now! |

We Asked, You Answered!
When your pets are "too quiet" what are they usually up to?
Marc Garbart: Getting in the trash.
Beth Reel: My dogs are usually trying to eat cat poop.
Stephanie Filer: Chewing a toilet paper roll.
Mary Klemzak: Watching critter TV on the window. :)
Sherri Tow-Selensky: Climbing the shelves of my pantry, stealing food! :)
Kenda Hernandez: Quietly sneaking upstairs to the bathroom and getting into the little trash can, or going into the bedroom and pulling his Daddy's socks out of the drawer to bring downstairs and lay by!
Chris Turkovich: Plotting to take over the world.

Volunteer Spotlight: Stephen Pratt
Stephen Pratt is a real go-getter! Stephen comes to the shelter to walk dogs and socialize cats. Recently, though, Stephen planned an event at Ace Hardware in Marion. Two volunteers brought adoptable animals to the hardware store and collected donations. Stephen set it up with Ace himself! Thanks, Stephen, for taking the initiative and looking for different ways to help our shelter animals! |

Happy Tail: Just Another Lazy Day for Kahn (now Boots)
I came in to meet the adoptable cats with my son and his wife in May.
One of the adoption counselors helped us find a cat with just the right personality: an older cat who liked attention, but wouldn't be in our laps every minute.
Right away, I fell in love with Kahn, a cat who had been at the shelter for quite some time. He is such a good cat. His name was Kahn, but I renamed him Boots. He just answers to Kitty, Kitty.
Virginia A. Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
