Featured Feline:
Nadia

Nadia
Nadia came to us as a stray at the end of May. She is a sweet, but shy girl who loves to be petted. She gets along well with other cats, so if you're looking for a feline friend for your cat, she might be the one!
Compatible Canine:
Shiloh

Shiloh
Shiloh has been in our care since the last few days of October, having transferred to us from another shelter. He has stunning eyes--one blue, the other brown. Plus, he has the most gentle kennel manners. As soon as you get him outside, though, his energy level really spikes! This boy loves his exercise, and he is as friendly as they come! If you're active and have a large outdoor area to run and play, Shiloh might be the boy for you!

Greetings!

In honor of the men and women who have bravely served our great nation, we're offering a Pets for Vets adoption special from November 11 through 13.

Executive director Bob Citrullo and shelter cat HimmyVeterans and members of the United States military, both active and reserves, can adopt any pet for 50% off the adoption fee. (Standard adoption processes still apply.)

It's been proven that companion animals help heal psychological war wounds. According to research studies, pets can lower the blood pressure and heart rates of their owners. They also have a stress-busting effect, according to Behavioral Sciences research conducted at Emory University. As an Army veteran, I can tell you first-hand that pets have the power to change lives.

To take advantage of our Pets for Vets adoption special on Veterans' Day weekend, you just need to show us a valid military ID or other proof of service. Come pay us a visit this weekend, and let us pay you our respects for serving our country.

Together we can make a difference-

Eat Wings. Raise Funds. Save Animals.

Buffalo Wild Wings logoBuffalo Wild Wings is giving it up for homeless animals! On November 14, eat at Buffalo Wild Wings at 2020 Edgewood Road SW in Cedar Rapids, and the restaurant will donate 10% of all pre-taxed food sales (minus alcohol sales and other promotional discounts) to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

You must present a fundraising ticket to your server, so be sure to print it and take it with you. (Actually, you should give fundraising tickets to all your friends, family and co-workers, too! The more money raised, the more animals saved!)

We Asked, You Answered!
speech bubble

How has your pet's routine changed now that it's gotten colder? Or has it stayed the same?

Amanda Marie Sorel: Changed! My big ol' Rottweiler is loving the temp change! It means longer walks!

Mallory Tipton: Changed! My papi-poo wants to go outside more! It'll probably change again when it snows. I think she prefers cool weather. Summer is too hot, winter is too cold, but she likes to play in the snow.

Victoria Culwell: Everybody wants to sleep more and gets super-snuggly at night time. Nothing better than a big dog laying across you and a fuzzy kitty sleeping on my feet.

Volunteer Spotlight: Jen and Jadyn Allamand

Jen and Jadyn Allamand joined our volunteer team in September and have jumped right in!

First, they redecorated our picture boards with beautiful hand and pawthemes, so our pet photos are cute and festive when we display them at events. Next, Jen and Jadyn have come out to the shelter to socialize our cats and play with the dogs, giving them much needed love and attention.

They also attended our most recent fundraising meeting. Afterwards, Jen took it upon herself to make breakfast burritos to sell at her workplace and donate the proceeds to our shelter sweeties! (Way cool!) Jen and Jadyn also have helped at events. Apparently, they couldn't choose just one thing to do, so they chose many! Thanks, Jen and Jadyn! We love your enthusiasm and whatever-it-takes attitude!

Happy Tail: From the Diary of Polly A-Z

Mornings start off waking up with Dad and going for a walk...the big light in the sky is usually just coming up. Polly relaxes with her Mom and DadThen Dad feeds me, and I see him off to work. After that I sneak back upstairs and snuggle with Mom for an hour or so.

When we get up again, Mom takes me on a run. We LOVE to run together, but Mom is a little slow. Then Mom eats and works a little, while I lay on the couch. Then Mom calls me, and we go to the car and head out to my FAVORITE place! Mom calls it a dog park; I call it a BLAST! There are always new friends to meet... and new smells!!!

After a few hours there, we head home and Mom works some more while I take a nap. (I get REAL tired when I run a lot.) When Mom's done we go for yet ANOTHER walk and play FRISBEE! Then Mom gives me dinner and makes some for her and Dad.

When Dad gets home I am SOOOO excited! My whole body wiggles as I go greet him. He gives me lots of pets, and I give him lots of kisses. Then they sit down to eat. I lay under the table, and if I'm being a good little girl (which I usually am) they pet me with their feet. I LOVE pets!

If it's Thursday, we go to my other FAVORITE place. I run and play tug and get to go for a ball! Mom and Dad call it "flyball." I'm working on being a part of a team!

When I go to sleep FINALLY I sometimes still have nightmares of my life before I was found. Mom or Dad usually wake me up and give me lots of pets and kisses. They remind me that I am safe and loved and will NEVER be hurt or lost again...not if they can help it.

Mom and Dad would like to thank the Cedar Valley Humane Society for giving me to them, and I have to thank them, too!

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
