Featured Feline:
Molly

Molly
Molly is an independent girl who will come to you when she wants her lovin'. She and her kittens were strays who came into our care toward the end of March. Her kittens have all been adopted, and now it's just Molly waiting for her forever home. She was a good momma, but she would do best in a home with no other cats. A quiet household without kids would suit her just perfectly! Stop by and meet Molly today!
Compatible Canine:
Missy

Missy
Missy transferred into our care at the end of September. With all her energy, she would make a fabulous jogging partner! Missy knows basic commands, but she needs someone to reinforce them and make sure she does what she's supposed to. She tends to be dominant, so if you're trying to find a companion for your pup, it would only work if your dog is submissive. Missy does not get along with cats at all!

Greetings!

Meet Cody. Answering a call from a concerned Linn County resident, our animal control officer picked up Cody just west of Central City.

We could tell the young German wirehaired pointer had been hit by a car. He

could barely walk; his left hind leg was starting to swell, and it was covered with open wounds. We raced Cody to the veterinary hospital. X-rays confirmed Cody's leg was badly broken. Blood was now surging into the surrounding tissue, causing his leg to swell rapidly. We gave the vet the go-ahead to perform surgery to save Cody's leg.

During his exam, Cody's happy-go-lucky personality really shined through, even though he was in unbelievable pain. We could tell this sweet boy was someone's beloved pet. Sure enough, Cody was reunited with his owner the same day of the surgery.

Cody's story has an ending we can all be happy about. But...what

if? What if no one had

come to the aid of the suffering dog? What if we had not been here to respond to the call, had not rushed Cody to the veterinary hospital? Cody's story would have ended very differently.

The Cedar Valley Humane Society is here for Cody...and all the animals like him. Animals who need our help. But we can't save them without your help. We need your continued support so animals like Cody can get the help they need, when they need it.

Please, answer the call. Donate today.

Together we can make a difference-

Costume the Cockapoo! Deck out the Doxie!

Sorry all you glam hamsters, kitschy kittens, and princess-y ponies! We just found out that Theisen's big event is for dogs only this year. Dog-O-Ween is coming up fast, but you still have time to get crazy and creative.

Dog-O-Ween will be held on Sunday, October 30, at BOTH Theisen's Daschund dressed as a caterpillarlocations in Cedar Rapids: 3111 16th Avenue SW and 1800 51st St. NE. Registration is at 10 a.m., and the contest itself begins at 1 p.m. It costs $7 to enter, and every participant receives a $7 Theisen's gift card. There are some great prizes for the winners, including a $150 Theisen's gift card for the grand prize winner. Celebrity judges will be on hand to choose the best costume.

Want some inspiration? Sneak a peek at last year's winners! We had some genuinely imaginative costumes in 2010, including a giant handbag, a tossed salad, and Oscar the Grouch. (And more...oh, SO much more!)

So, dress up your furry friend and join the fun! If you're not feeling particularly creative, just stop in for an eyeful of goofy. And bring some extra moolah to buy yummy bake sale items--we'll be selling people-treats and doggie-treats. You'll be supporting a great cause, because--that's right!--all proceeds from the entry fees and the bake sale benefit the homeless animals at the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

Eat Wings. Raise Funds. Save Animals.

Buffalo Wild Wings logoBuffalo Wild Wings is giving it up for homeless animals! On November 7 and November 14, eat at Buffalo Wild Wings at 2020 Edgewood Road SW in Cedar Rapids, and the restaurant will donate 10% of all pre-taxed food sales (minus alcohol sales and other promotional discounts)to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

You must present a fundraising ticket to your server, so be sure to print it and take it with you. (Actually, you should give fundraising tickets to all your friends, family and co-workers, too! The more money raised, the more animals saved!)

Volunteer Spotlight: Laura Janik and Greg Marusov

Laura Janik and Greg Marusov spent more than hand and pawtwenty hours each last month at the shelter walking, exercising, and loving on our dogs. This is pretty amazing, given that they just starting volunteering last month! This team is a joy to be around. They are always smiling, brightening the day of every person and every dog they come into contact with. Thanks, Laura and Greg, for your cheerful and dedicated service!

Happy Tail: Zoe, Showered with Love

We adopted Zoe on July 1, 2011. Ten-year-old Payton researched Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Zoe and Paytonand did a Google search to find Zoe at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Zoe now lives with us in DeWitt, Iowa. Zoe shares her home with a 12-year-old dog named Bandit, an 18-year-old cat named Simba, and a three-year-old cat named Herky. Zoe loves to take walks in her neighborhood and play with the family. She will do most anything for a treat!

Zoe is a lover and always wants to please those around her. She shares lots of kisses with the family and her animal pals. But be careful when you take a shower and leave your clothes on the bathroom floor! Zoe loves to steal your clothes and run off with them!

Zoe has been a wonderful addition to our family! We can't imagine life without her!

Lori and Payton W.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
