Featured Feline:
Binky

Binky
Binky was given up by his owner in mid-April because the new baby was allergic to him. He is a rambunctious boy who likes to play and be petted, but don't expect to carry him about with you all the time. Binky tends to be a door dasher, so if you live in a place where it would be easy for him to escape, he's probably not the best choice for you. He is front declawed.
Compatible Canine:
Jack

Jack
Jack is a stray who came into our care at the beginning of September. He is a calm, watchful dog whose temperament more closely matches a Shepherd's than a Lab's. Jack seems to think about things before he does them, trying to make the right choice! (If only people were more like Jack!) This sweet boy still has plenty of play in him, so stop in and meet him today.

Dedicated volunteers are the key to the success of any nonprofit organization.
Executive Director Bob Citrullo with Toffee
The Cedar Valley Humane Society is no different. Without volunteers, we would not be able to do half the things we do to fulfill our mission. No pet safety programs in schools. No pet therapy in retirement residences. No adoption events. No fundraisers. We would not be able to take care of the nearly 2,000 animals we take in each year. And without these things, there would be no Cedar Valley Humane Society as we know it.

So, thank you to all our volunteers. Thank you for being so giving of your time and talents. Thank you for being a vital part of our organization. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. If I haven't met you already, be sure to stop in and introduce yourself!

Together we can make a difference-

P.S. If you aren't a volunteer, it's never too late. Give us a call, and our volunteer coordinator will get you started! (If you don't have time to volunteer, you can still make a difference. Donate now to help us save the lives of homeless animals.)

Cat Companions for Seniors

Cat Companions for Seniors poster
Do you know an elderly person who has lost a spouse or just can't get out like he or she used to? Perhaps your senior would enjoy the company of a cat! We have formed a new partnership with Cat Companions for Seniors to provide cats FREE to seniors who would benefit from the company of a feline friend.

Cat Companions for Seniors supplies everything needed to get started: cat carrier, collar, and toys; food and water bowls; litter, litterbox, and scoop. So there's no reason to be home alone any longer--plenty of feline friends await!

And don't forget our TwoFur Felines program! Now through the end of September, adopt one cat and get the second cat FREE!

We Asked, You Answered!
speech bubble

What was the first thing that drew you to your pet(s)?

Michael Albee: In 2007, Neka "aka Sasha" (GSD) picked me when I visited her at CVHS. I visited four dogs that day, and she was the only one that came to me on her own while we were out in the side yard. Patches (current) had such a great personality, and she and Neka hit it off great from the very first minute they met.

Josh Sevart: My lab found me and never left.

Sarah Twiselton: My JRT tried to crawl inside my coat sleeve & had a bullseye around her tail...my Westie snuggled up under my chin when I first held him. :)

Rachel Green: The 'thanks for the rescue' eyes.

Volunteer Spotlight: Julie Steinauer

hand and pawTalk about consistent TLC! Julie Steinauer visits PetSmart every week to help clean the cat condos and give our sweet felines plenty of love. Then she sends us an update on how the cats are doing. Julie has been taking care of our cats and reporting on their wellbeing unfailingly for months now. Julie, your interaction is SO important to the health and happiness of our PetSmart cats. Thank you for being so generous with your time, energy, and heart!

Happy Tail: Prissy (now Olive) Settles in Nicely

I wanted to let you know how excited we were to pick up Olive (Prissy)! She has not disappointed!Child's drawing of family with new cat

She plays and plays and purrs and purrs! We are so happy to have her in our family. She's perfect... purrrfect! She had a perfect check-up at the vet and has settled nicely into her new home. My youngest son has drawn a picture of our "new" family, and if you notice, Olive is included.

Her favorite game/toy is her mouse that squeaks and her cat charmer. She repeatedly "captures" the mouse and leaves it in front of our door on the rug and sits next to it waiting for us to tell her what a "good kitty" she is! She also sits in her own chair at the table during dinner and sits pretty patiently. She also cries when the kids stop playing or no one is looking at or talking to her. We LOVE her and we want to thank you so much for taking care of her until she came "home." Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Love,
Cassie M. and family

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

If a homeless cat could talk, it would probably say, "Give me shelter, food, companionship and love, and I will be yours for life!"
