Featured Feline: Serendipity
Serendipity came to us near the end of April because someone in her family was allergic. She is a very affectionate lap cat who loves to be held and petted. She knows her name and comes when she is called. She is very food- and people-oriented. (Hey, she knows where that food comes from!) This affectionate couch potato is good with dogs and other cats. She came from a quiet, adult-only home, but she seems to do okay with children. She definitely loves her scratching posts! Stop in and meet the super-friendly Serendipity today! |

Compatible Canine: Dotti
Dotti is a sweet kiddo who came to us as a stray in mid-July. She would do well with a laidback family with kids over the age of 15. She definitely needs a home without cats, as she is very reactive around them. Dotti likes to run and play catch, so come on out and toss a ball around for her! |

Greetings!
Well, the construction on Mount Vernon Road sure did slow us all down a bit! We are now open to the public again, and we invite you to come on out and visit the cats and dogs waiting to be adopted. These pets are homeless through no fault of their own, and they are some of the sweetest animals you would ever want to meet. And to sweeten the deal, we've decided to extend the TwoFur Felines event for another month! So now through the end of September, adopt one cat and get the second cat FREE!
Sharing your love of animals-

We Asked, You Answered!
What's the most expensive thing your pet has destroyed?
Chris Tate-Davies: Himself. Cost £1000 to have his leg amputated!
Jo Miller: Crate+Barrel couch: $1000. Carpet on stairs and in guest bedroom: $??. Life with Neko and Pepper: Priceless!
Jennifer Pettit: My retainer.
Angela Warren: Two packs of sugarless gum...it ended with two $290 stomach-pumping sessions at the emergency vet. Love my fur baby though...he's worth it.

Volunteer Spotlight: Maggie Hornickel
Maggie Hornickel is truly wonderful! She transports our kiddos to and from events, where she shows them off to potential adopters. The shelter sweeties get all kinds of attention while in Maggie's care. Maggie usually brings a second set of hands when she volunteers--on Christmas, her entire family stopped in to help our staff clean cat condos.
Maggie has recently donated three doggie vests that declare the pups to be "Ready for Adoption" and include a pouch for donations. Thanks, Maggie, for your dedication and generosity! |

Happy Tail: Jinny (now Jill) is a Perfect Match
We adopted Jill in January, 2011, when she was just eight weeks old. Both Jim and I have had dogs we have loved before, but neither of us had any idea we could be so in love with this one. Jill is a Jack Russell Terrier, and this breed needs a special type of owner and does much better if it has room to get lots of exercise. We have put in an invisible fence, so Jill has over an acre in the woods to enjoy.
If there is one thing I would recommend to potential adoptive parents it would be to research the breed. We did so and knew exactly what to expect with the JRT, and Jill did not disappoint in any of those areas. She truly is a 150-pound dog in an 11-pound body!!!!
This puppy has been, and will continue to be, everything we could possibly want in a companion. She is smart and adorable, and in the words of our vet, she has a really BIG personality!
I know there were several prospective adopters for this puppy, and we were lucky enough to get her. But I really think that the Cedar Valley Humane Society did a good job of understanding that we happened to live in a perfect environment for this type of dog, we were at the right place in our lives (my husband had recently retired and could commit the kind of time to this dog that was needed), and we had done extensive research and knew this was the breed we were committed to adopting/buying anyway.
Jill could not have fulfilled all of our expectations any better. She is absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! Thanks so much for your attention to adopting those pets!
Jim & Cindy G.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
