Featured Feline:
Himmy (aka Hemmi)

 Himmy aka Hemmi
Himmy was brought back to us because the family's baby was allergic to him. Himmy is a very happy cat who loves to be held and petted, especially on his belly and under his chin. He had a little trouble getting used to the family's cat and the baby, so it might be best if he were an only cat in a home with older children. He is a lovey-dovey boy, so we know that there's a perfect family for him. Maybe it's yours!
Compatible Canine:
Bella

 Bella
Bella was brought to us at the end of June because her owner was moving and couldn't keep her. Bella came from an active household with teenagers who loved to play fetch and tug and chase and wrestle with her. She is an energetic and loving girl who would do best in a home where there are no other animals. This playful girl loves her squeaky toys!

Introducing TwoFur Felines! That's right--now through the end of August, adopt one cat and get the second cat FREE! There has never been a better time to adopt cats from us. We have SO many to choose from: all ages, sizes, coats, and colors. Our shelter is absolutely overflowing with cats right now, and we really need to find homes for them!

TwoFur Felines will be fantastic for us, you, and, more importantly, the cats! Two cats are better than one. They tire each other out when you're gone. They're never bored or lonely. Plus, it's so much fun to watch them play together! So come on in, get to know our sweet felines, and find a couple to bring home. You'll never experience more joy and unconditional love in your life!

We Asked, You Answered!

Is there a story behind how your pet got his or her name? Tell us!

Steve Spidle: My Lab's name is Payday...picked him up on a Friday, and he cost me 1 paycheck. Full name is Kiss Payday Goodbye.

Yvette Struchen Clapp: We adopted Jerry from the CVHS, and you guys said he was brought in with another male dog that you named Tom. We thought it was a cute, fun story and kept the name.

Wendy Dankert Bucklin: We have a business name: WJB Enterprises (Wendy (Me), Jessie (our JRT we lost 2 yrs ago), Bob (husband). When we adopted our new family member from CVHS last year, we decided she needed to be a "J" to be part of both our home and business. We thought of all "J" names and decided Josie was a good fit!

Jessica Mikesell: My bearded dragon was named Pecan Pie because after we picked him up we went through the Arby's drive-through, and they had a sign about their wraps containing pecans. We started saying "pecan pie" like they do in the movie "When Harry met Sally." Every time we said it he would look at us and nod.

Volunteer Spotlight: Sydney Daily

Sydney Daily just completed her summer internship with us. She hashand and paw been cleaning our cat adoption rooms four mornings a week. She also assists with grooming as needed.

Sydney totally rocked it at our Soapy Waters event where she brought her own grooming tub in which to bathe the dogs! She looked like a pro while pampering all the pooches. Sydney, we really appreciate all your hard work! Best of luck as you continue your studies!

Happy Tail: Oreo (now Jackson) Has Plenty of Room and Playmates!

I just finished reading about Rosie, and I thought I send you an update on Oreo (now renamed Jackson). He also was part of the group of 19 rescued Dachshunds.

He is the center of my universe! I have always been an animal lover, but had not had a dog since I wasOreo (now Jackson) a kid. AND I've always been a cat person. Like Rosie's owner, I saw the article about the Dachshunds in the Gazette. Jackson picked ME the second I came through the door at the shelter. He has two big dog brothers that belong to my roommate and five cat friends. He loves them all!

House training has been an issue, but I'm patient and he keeps trying. He has 25 acres on which to run and play (and poop - one of these days he'll get it right). I'm pretty sure he gets those little legs running over every inch of those acres! We live in the woods so you can imagine how that Dachshund nose get a workout. We have critter smells to follow everywhere!

Jackson's favorite toys are ones that squeak and my five cats. The cats don't like to think of themselves as toys and often sit up high out of the way while they take turns playing chase with him. He goes everywhere with me except to work. Sometimes he even gets to do that (I'm a teacher). He has great fun with the kids!

At the end of the day he burrows under the covers and acts like a little furry heating pad. I can barely remember what my life was like before he came to live with me. Thank you for the great work you do and thank you for bringing Jackson into my life!

Diane Y.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

Two cats can live as cheaply as one, and their owner has twice as much fun.
