Featured Feline:
Kari

 Kari
Kari is a very friendly girl who came to us as a stray in mid-November. She is very curious and playful. Kari loves to get attention, but you have to go a little slow to gain her trust. Once you do, she is a little purr-baby who loves to be held and cuddled. Kari also can make a toy out of just about anything! She would do well in a home with other cats, kids, and possibly even dogs. Overall, she is a relaxed girl who would make a great companion!
Compatible Canine:
Milo

 Milo
Don't let the grey on the muzzle fool you--Milo still has plenty of spunk! When we picked Milo up as a stray in mid-June, it was easy to see he needed a little TLC. He was very underweight, but still in good spirits. When Milo's owner came forward, she decided to surrender him to us because she hadn't been able to take care of him. Since Milo has been in our care, we have made great progress on putting weight on him. He has proven to be a good-natured fellow, in spite of his ordeal. Even though he's had a rough go at things, he's ready to start over with a forever family. Stop in today and meet this happy-go-lucky guy!

Greetings!

How many animals do you have in your family? One? Three? Seven? Think about what it costs to care for them--to keep them supplied with food, bedding, litter, toys, chewies, medical care...you name it. Well, we have 217 animals in our care right now. Close your eyes and imagine what 217 animals looks like! Think about how much money it takes to care for 217 animals! We know times are tough right now, but if you can, please donate today.

As hot as it is, how do you help your pet beat the heat?

Patrick Albrecht: Kiddie pool filled fresh daily with cool water.

Jess D'Artagnan Love: Ice in my kitties' water dishes.

Stacy Wilson-Luchtenburg: Kiddie pool, AC, and we're about to go walk in the creek! Gotta beat the heat AND burn some energy somehow!!

Stephanie Learned: No outside play unless I have the sprinkler going for them.

Mary Cue McChristy: Our kittens Colbie & Yadi enjoy looking out at the world from the comfort of our air conditioned house. :o)

Volunteer Spotlight: Rachel Tabron

CedarKudos to Rachel Tabron of Ambroja Photography! Rachel was honored on June 24 with the Governor's Volunteer Award for her volunteer work with us and other animal welfare organizations across Iowa.

Rachel dedicates countless hours each month to capturing the Kittenpersonalities of our shelter sweeties with her camera. Her gorgeous photographs help us get these kiddos into forever homes just that much faster! Hats off to you, Rachel, for being so generous with your time and talent!

Happy Tail: The Golden Girls

The Golden Girls
Ketchup and Mustard are now known as the Golden Girls! Adopter Karla Z. sent us this fun photo montage to show us a typical "day in the life" of Nela and Nala. Whether it's gazing longingly out the window, snuggling in for a catnap, or snooping through open drawers, these two girls have a grand time! Thanks, Karla, for sharing these wonderful photos of Nela and Nala with us!

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace.
