Featured Feline: Missy
Missy is a gorgeous girl who came into our care in the middle of April because she was not getting along well with the owner's large-breed dog. Missy comes from a household that is quiet during the day and active in the evening. She has a very friendly personality, and she loves to be held and petted. She plays very gently, and her fave toys are string and fuzzy mice. This girl will steal your heart at first sight! |

Compatible Canine: Ishkur
Ishkur was a stray brought to us in mid-May. He still thinks he's a puppy, and he loves to jump and play. Because Ishkur is so boisterous, if there are children in the household, we require them to be more than 12 years old. He is a very vocal boy who goes stir crazy if he doesn't get enough exercise. When you come to meet him, be sure to ask to take him out, because he has better manners once he's burned off a little energy. |
Please come visit me and my friends! Monday-Friday: 12pm-7pm Saturday and Sunday: 12pm-5pm

'Tis the (Kitten) Season
That's right, folks! Kitten season is officially here. We have more than 50 kittens in our care. Some are still too young to be separated from their mommas, but more than 15 are already available for adoption.
If you've got a sweet spot for adorable kittens, now's a good time to jump in and help us out! Volunteer to clean cat condos at the shelter. Donate kitten milk replacer. Become a foster parent. These are just a few of the ways you can become involved in helping us help the homeless cats and kittens in Linn County. It's rewarding work, so call us at (319) 362-6288 to find out how you can get started!

We Asked, You Answered!
How does your pet react when getting a bath?
Mark Fuller: My dog, Roady, doesn't care as long as he is getting the attention. He usually even lays down. It makes it a little hard to get the paws and stuff that way, but it's better than having him flailing all over.
Kevin J. Railsback: Sadie and Sasha tolerate them. Trying to find the other one after we give the first one a bath is always an adventure.
Mary Klemzak: My golden, Mammadog Klemzak, does OK. I have to bring in treats, which she gets every minute for 5 minutes she has to wait with her flea shampoo. She doesn't complain. Sometimes she hides at first, but she's learned to go into the bathroom and even the tub, and wait. She doesn't complain, but there's some pictures I have when she looks like she says "How much longer, Mom?" :)

Volunteer Spotlight: Kevin Railsback
Kevin Railsback is on a mission! Kevin comes in and spends an enormous amount of time with our dogs, giving them the love and attention they so need. After just a few months of volunteering, he has become our dog-walking expert and has agreed to teach our other volunteers how to handle dogs on the second and fourth Thursday of every month.
Kevin also is an accomplished videographer who has traveled the globe capturing stunning images of wolves and other wild animals. Now, he is capturing our sweet pups' personalities on videotape to help us get them into forever homes more quickly. (You may have seen his posts on Facebook!) Thank you, Kevin, for sharing your time and talents with our organization. |

Happy Tail: Zeus "Writes" to Say He's Loved Like Crazy!
Hello to all my friends at the Cedar Valley Humane Society!
I just wanted to let you know that I am doing very well in my new home! My family is so happy with me and loves me like crazy! I had a little bit of a tough adjustment at first, particularly when my Mom and Dad had to leave me at home by myself. I was really scared and had a tendency to shred things to ease my anxiety.
To help me through that, I went over to my Mom's parents' house whenever Mom and Dad had to leave. I really love going over to visit their house! They have two Golden Retrievers named Lilly and Daisy, and we are the BEST of friends. We run and play in their big yard and have so much fun.
Over the last six months, however, I have really settled into my home, and I am no longer scared to be left alone. Mom puts on special music that relaxes me, and she gives me plenty of chew toys. But mostly, I just love to sleep. I still get to go play with Lilly and Daisy and lot, but I don't need to anymore.
My Mom, Dad, and I love to go for long walks at the park by our house, and they take me along for car rides whenever than can. (I LOVE the car!) I have also made friends with a lot of my parents' friends' dogs, so I have play dates about once a week.
My Mom and Dad want to thank you so very much for letting them take me home. They had wanted a dog for quite a while and were thrilled to finally find me. They are absolutely in love with me and truly couldn't be happier. Thank you for finding my forever home!
Lots of Love,
Zeus and proud parents,
Cathy and Casey M.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
