Featured Feline:
Napoleon

 Napoleon
Napoleon was brought to us because his owner had too many cats. He is a rambunctious and affectionate guy who loves to be held and petted. Napoleon is used to an active, noisy household that included other cats and a pit bull, with which he got along quite well. He would do well with children of any age. If this sounds like your family, come on in and meet Napoleon. He may be your newest family member!
Compatible Canine:
Sassy

 Sassy
See Sassy run! Sassy is a very sweet, happy-go-lucky girl who came to us as a stray in the middle of December. She is an energetic pup who loves to play outside, so it would be best for her to be adopted by an active family with a fenced-in yard. Obedience training would be a positive way to help her channel some of her energy, as well.

Greetings!

Providing educational opportunities is a vital part of the Cedar Valley Humane Society's mission. We want to give people in our communities the chance to learn how companion animals can tranform their lives, as well as how they, as pet owners, can in turn enrich the lives of their pets.

To this end, we are offering some excellent classes in May. Our dog obedience training classes will help bring out the best in your canine companion, while strengthening the bond between you.

We also encourage you to take our Emergency Care and Safety Institute pet first aid class. If your pet eats something harmful or needs bandaging, you'll know exactly what to do.

Please visit our website to learn more about these educational opportunities. You may also register by using the links to the left.

We Asked, You Answered!

How does your pet welcome you when you come home?

Laura Edmonds Webber: All three of my cats are at the door meowing as if to say, "Where have you been?" while looking at their 'watches'!

Heidi Karr: Joee and Baby run to their toybox and grab a toy for me to play with. How thoughtful! :)

Nor Meyer: "How's it goin'?"

Deb Cook Collins: Let's see...today he decided to pee in my antique wooden bowl on the table.

Volunteer Spotlight: Chelsea DeLarm

Chelsea Delarm has been volunteering with us since November, giving us more than 40 hours of her time. Chelsea comes in Friday afternoons hand and pawand/or Saturday mornings to help with whatever needs to be done. Just recently, she was one of two educational outreach volunteers who took a pet to Grant Early Childhood Elementary School. She did such a wonderful job! The school called to let us know how much the kids enjoyed the visit, and they also requested a tour of our facility. Since then, she has performed more community outreach, including taking pets to Peck's and visiting a Girl Scout Troop and another school.

Thanks, Chelsea, for all your hard work and for dazzling the students on your visit!

Happy Tail: Manny (now Pippin) Finds Friends in the Bat Cave

I thought it would be nice to update you on the adorable kitty Manny that I adopted. I decided to rename him Pippin (from Lord of the Rings), although my roommates sometimes call him Bruce; apparently, he looks like Batman.

He is the most friendly and talkative cat I've ever met. He has a surprisingly deep meow, so we refer to it as his Batman voice. He's Manny (now Pippin)already had two baths since I adopted him, and he took it like a man, never scratching or complaining or anything (he never scratches or bites, unless he's playing and even then you can barely feel anything).

His best friend is my roommate's cat, Remus. They are only about a month apart in age, so it worked out perfect for them.

I've taught him to sit for treats, and we are currently working on (and struggling with) "shake." He has more toys to play with than he could possibly need, his favorite being a now-raggedy-looking feather toy that he drags around with him. The first thing he does every time he walks in my room is use the scratching post like a good boy. (He thought my bed was a good nail sharpener for a while.)

He's also a very clumsy cat, which makes him hilarious to watch. Recently, he has discovered TV. He sits on top of our TV and hangs down his head and front two legs, batting at the people on the screen. Pippin is my Velcro cat, and I can't imagine not having him in my life. Thank you for helping me add such a wonderful little mister to my life!

Sincerely,

Stephanie

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
