Featured Feline:
Domino

 Domino
Domino has been in our care an entire year! Domino is a very playful kitty who would love to be in a big house where he has lots of area to run. He was brought to us as a stray, but it's clear that he used to belong to someone because he is very sociable and thrives on attention. This big-boned boy is a sweet snuggler, and we think he would be a lap cat if given the chance. His laidback, yet active, personality makes him a great choice for a family with children. He loves to cuddle with other cats and would make a wonderful companion for your kitty. He also seems to get along with dogs. He has lovely lime-green eyes and soft, luxurious fur. Come in and meet this good-natured cat today!
Compatible Canine:
Bruno

 Bruno the dog
Bruno came to us as a stray at the end of December with what appeared to be severely infected dog bites on the back of his head and neck. His injuries have healed nicely. Bruno is a whole lotta dog, so we highly recommend obedience training. Because of his size, strength, and rambunctious personality, he would do best in a home without small children. This sweetheart of a dog is also very vocal, so he might not be the best choice for apartment life.

Greetings!

I know you've been hearing a lot about our upcoming fundraiser, Whine & Wags. I want to take a moment to share with you how very important this fundraiser is to our organization.

Our operations are almost entirely funded by donations from people just like you-- animal lovers who do everything in their power to help abused, neglected, and abandoned animals. With your generous support, we provided care and offered hope to nearly 2,000 of these animals in 2010.

I'd like to personally invite you to Whine & Wags. It's gonna be a blast!

See you there!

We Asked, You Answered!
speech bubble

How old were you when you got your first pet?

Molly Rossiter: I think my parents already had a German shepherd when I was born - and since then the only time I've been without a pet was in the dorms in college, for one year.

Kelly Calkins: I think I was 3 or 4 years old. My family and I lived in a trailer park at the time and we had a cat. When I got older and started to live on my own I got a female Dachshund named Dusty.

Joni Nyguard: In the womb as we already had a huge rabbit named King. Otherwise, a toy terrier when I was about 2 or 3 yrs.

Jill Gray: Too old, 13. I wanted a pet ever since I was little.

Volunteer Spotlight: Jacki Wallace

Jacki Wallace has been volunteering with the Cedar Valley Humane Society for more than a year now. She contributed 63 hours to us in 2010!

Jacki makes three pet therapy visits a month and helps at special events. At our volunteer hand and paworientations, she shares her experiences with others who are interested in becoming volunteers, giving them an idea of what pet therapy visits are like and why she enjoys them. Jacki also volunteers at two other organizations, so she is a very busy and giving lady. Thank you, Jacki, for choosing to volunteer at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. We appreciate all you do!

Happy Tail: Spanky (now Walter) Finds the Perfect Home

Thank you Cedar Valley Humane Society! You excel at matchmaking, since you found the perfect companion for me and my 13-year-old Labrador retriever, Walker.

I had been looking for another four-legged family member after losing my 14-and-a-half-year-old Walter and WalkerLab, Wiley, last year to complications from old age. I received a phone call from a staff member at the Cedar Valley Humane Society who said that an older yellow Lab was found, and he needed a new forever home. Needless to say, my friend Walker, my dog-trainer friend, Julie, and I visited Walter (formerly Spanky) and found he was a perfect fit! Walter joined us the week before Christmas, and he instantly became part of the family. He is housebroken, does not need to be crated or leashed, knows his commands, and is loving and kind to all people and animals. Walter and Walker are best friends, frequently sleeping nose to nose. I always gush, and I call him the perfect dog!

Thanks to the wonderful staff for assisting me in locating the right dog for my needs and situation. Walter has his forever home with Walker and me.

I encourage people to consider and adopt older, adult animals. You never know what treasure you will find! In December, my brother adopted an adult cat from the shelter. Asher has turned out to be the perfect kitty for my niece, Olivia.

These experiences have reminded us of the valuable contribution your organization makes to the welfare of animals and the people who love them.

Annette H.
