Featured Feline: Garfield
Garfield was brought to us because his owners found themselves with too many cats due to an unexpected litter. He is a fun, delightful kitten--the owners were sad to give him up, but they thought it was best. Garfield is a friendly and playful boy who gets along well with other cats. He loves to crawl onto your lap and be petted and held. And (don't tell anybody!) sometimes at night, he'll attack your feet under the blankets and nibble softly on your finger! |

Compatible Canine: Diablo
Diablo was brought to us by his owner in February because Diablo wasn't getting along well with the other dog in the household. He would do best in a home without children or other dogs. Diablo is a very calm dog who loves nothing more than relaxing and watching TV... unless it's sunbathing on a blanket while someone scratches his head... or snuggling next to his owner. (Are you sensing a pattern?) This big couch potato would make a great companion for an older couple or a less active single person. |

Greetings!
We'd like to share with you the impact our organization has on Linn County and its communities. In 2010, the Cedar Valley Humane Society:
- Provided care and refuge to 1,790 homeless animals, including 11 rabbits, five guinea pigs, three ferrets, two degus, one chinchilla, and one tortoise.
- Partnered with 28 rescue groups to place animals of specific breeds or pets with special needs.
- Assisted the Linn County Sheriff and other local authorities with 333 situations that involved stray, neglected, or abused animals.
- Spayed or neutered 483 animals, thus helping to reduce pet overpopulation in Linn County.
- Made 185 pet-assisted therapy visits to area retirement residences and other care facilities, touching the lives of hundreds of senior citizens.
To help us continue our mission in 2011 and beyond, please donate now! Thanks for your support! |

We Asked, You Answered!
Does your pet "help" you when you're working? Tell us about it!
Wolf Hogen: Both my cats love to help when I'm working. Goofie will pose for the camera and loves to be a part of the art. Ben will steal my pencils and just lay in my lap purring. He also will get on the computer and chat with people.
Laura Edmonds Webber: Yes, she likes to supervise me when I'm cleaning the bathroom. She also loves to sit on the vacuum cord while I vacuum!
Rachel Tabron: Allie, my cat, loves to sit on my paperwork and the keyboard. She also sits on my lap when I'm editing and she insists on having her paws on top of my hands while typing.
Josh Miell: My dogs like to help out with yardwork while I'm mowing by taking all the sticks I've picked up and piled and spreading them back out about the yard. "Like" us on Facebook. You can find our page by searching "Cedar Valley Humane Society." Then stay tuned to see your responses in our E-news!

Volunteer Spotlight: Erynn Norris
Erynn Norris has been volunteering with the Cedar Valley Humane Society twice a week for several months.
She is a very conscientious and friendly volunteer who helps with the cats and is always willing to take on any task. As a Coe College student, Erynn has been very helpful in guiding other volunteers toward the right meeting room for the volunteer orientations held at Coe. Thanks, Erynn, for pitching in wherever needed and helping make each cat's stay at the shelter more enjoyable! |

Happy Tail: Hobo, Homeless No More!
I adopted Hobo October 14, 2010. He had been at the Cedar Valley Humane Society since February 2010.
Hobo hid for about two weeks under the shelves in "his room." Now he comes downstairs any time during the day. The other night he even came into my bedroom and jumped on the bed to lay with me. Hobo has the greatest personality ever, never been aggressive. I have never even heard him growl or hiss. He loves to be brushed! Loves his food, is always waiting at the stairs in the morning meowing his head off. He weighed 16.2 and now weighs 14.6 last time he was at the vet. I would like him to weigh ten lbs.
I was truly afraid that he would either hate dogs or fear them but, nope, he comes out and rubs against my 55 lb. Catahoula. They are great friends.
I love HOBO and even though he is no longer a hobo because he has a home, he will be keeping the name.
Thanks, Cedar Valley Humane Society, for keeping this loving, handsome boy.
Meagan R. and Hobo
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
