Featured Feline: Ingrid
Ingrid was abandoned on our doorstep in early September. She is an independent girl, but she still likes attention. She doesn't go looking for trouble, but she's no scaredy cat, either. She would make a steady companion for the right person. |

Compatible Canine: Niki
We are still looking for a home for NIki! This sweet girl came to us as a stray at the end of October. She loves to give kisses, and thinks that she's a lap dog. She is very energetic and tends to jump, so she may not be the best choice for a family with very small children. Older children would be great, though, as they can take her for a lot of walks and help her burn off all her excess energy. When you come visit, she'll jump around like crazy in her kennel, but don't let that put you off. She calms down after she's been out of her kennel for a while. |
Please come visit me and my friends! Monday-Friday: 12pm-7pm Saturday and Sunday: 12pm-5pm
7411 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE Cedar Rapids (319) 362-6288
Also, we ALWAYS have cats at Petco and PetSmart in Cedar Rapids!
Petco hours: Mon-Sat: 9am-9pm Sun: 10am-7pm
PetSmart hours: Mon-Sat: 9am-9pm Sun: 10am-6pm

We Asked, You Answered!
What are some of the silliest (perhaps even embarrassing!) nicknames you have for your pet?
Krista McKiness: I call my cat Mollifer. Her actual name is Molly but she acts very devilish.
Ute Brandenburg: Our cat Rosie was found rolling around on the rangetop once (luckily not hot at the time), so now we call her Roastie.
Elizabeth Carnicle: Molly-Mollers and Fur-Butt...depends on the moment! Oh, and Furby Fritter. No idea how any of them came to be, but she answers to all of them!
Nikole Pattison Tutton: The Recycler...don't ask.
Sara O'Connell: I call my black lab Finnegan "Oobie Goobie Boobie" It translates into, "Oh Good Boy"...Dog talk...lol. "Like" us on Facebook. You can find our page by searching "Cedar Valley Humane Society." Then stay tuned to see your responses in our E-news!

Volunteer Spotlight: Semelroth and the Sindts
We would like to express our gratitude to Courtney Semelroth and the Shelly Sindt family for coming in each Sunday to assist with the cats. We are deeply thankful for your help each week. It's a lot of fun to have you at the shelter, and it's great to know we and the cats can depend on you each and every week. |

Happy Tail: Antoinette (now Miss Kitty) Finds True Love in Her New Home
(Note: Antoinette is a special-needs cat who appeared with our Executive Director on KGAN-TV's morning news. This sweet girl needed surgery to remove BB pellets lodged in her flank, as well as two surgeries to remove teeth that were in poor condition.)
I wanted to give you an update on Antoinette (or Miss Kitty as we call her). First of all, I want to thank you so much for her. My only regret is that I did not "find" her when she was a kitten.
I don't know what she has endured from her birth until her adoption, but whatever she went through, she is such a beautiful, lovable cat. I just love how she hugs! When she lays on the couch or in the bed, she has to be touching you (either with her paw, laying her head on you, or just laying right up next to you.) My husband and I just adore her.
When she first got home, she walked around and made herself at home on the couch. As long as I was in the room with her, she was fine. If I left the room, she would run and hide. Or when someone would come in the house, she would run and hide. She found places to hide we did not know we had!
We have seen such an improvement in her within the week we have had her in our lives. She has some toys that she throws around and wrestles with them like a little kitten. I bought some kitty caps and hope to have those on her this week. She gets so carried away with her claws when she is content that her name should be "ow ow ow."
Again, thank you and be assured she will live the rest of her life as she was meant to live.
Jan M.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!

Notable Quote
I had a linguistics professor who said that it's man's ability to use language that makes him the dominant species on the planet. That may be. But I think there's another thing that separates us from animals. We aren't afraid of vacuum cleaners.
