Featured Feline:
Taz

 Taz the cat
Taz s a big, laidback boy who is still a kid at heart. He gets along great with people and would make an excellent pet for an older person who wants nothing more than to lavish love on him.
Compatible Canine:
Jaxson

 Jaxson the dog
Jaxson's owner brought him to us because she didn't have enough time to spend with the dog. She says that Jaxson is very friendly and loves to play outside with his people. Frisbee is his favorite game-he's very fast and can jump very high to catch it! Jaxson also jumps when he gets excited, so it would be best if he went to a home without small children. He doesn't like to be alone and responds well to one male figure who he can attach to. He is good with other dogs, but tends to chase cats. This sweet boy has tons of energy, so be prepared to be very, very active!

We Asked, You Answered!

Of all the tricks your pet can do, which is your favorite and why?

Jessica Mikesell: Seems like a really small thing, but one of my bearded dragons has learned to smile when I come home. Nothing like his big cheesy grin to welcome me after a long day.

Jamie Schmidt: I know a gal who taught her dog and has it on video...it's a awesome trick! She taught her border collie to blow bubbles in a bowl of water! How awesome is that??? How many dogs you know can do that. It takes patience and great listening skills and a bond between them!

Leora Mikesell: My daughter taught her cat to kiss her goodbye when he is ready to get off her lap. It's really cute.

Volunteer Spotlight: Deb Hildebrand

hand and pawDeb Hildebrand is a valuable asset to Cedar Valley Humane Society's pet therapy program. Deb brings shelter animals to several retirement residences each month. Their visits are the high point of the residents' days, and the pets love being showered with all the extra attention! Thanks, Deb, for brightening their days. We appreciate your commitment to helping us strengthen the human-animal bond!

Happy Tail: Snugglebuddies Forever

We could not be happier with Beaker and Gonzo! They are so sweet and cuddly. Gonzo's favorite thing to do is wrap himself around your neck, and if you have a ponytail in, that's even better as he will Kittens snugglingplay and try to eat it. He loves to curl up around your neck and just snuggle (which is my favorite part), and he makes a great neck warmer!

Beaker is so sweet. She loves the men in the family, as they are her favorite to cuddle with. I think it's because they ignore her, and she plays right into it. HA! They love to chase the dogs and keep them on their toes. Overall, they have made themselves right at home and have become a wonderful part of our family.

Hybrid vigor is an important concept in the plant world. You get this from combining the different strengths of different strains. It's the same with mutts -- if you want a dog with hybrid vigor -- get a mutt.
