Featured Feline:
Pidgey

 Pidgey the cat
Pidgey was left behind to fend for himself when his owner moved. Luckily, an animal-loving neighbor brought him to us. He has been at the shelter since the beginning of November, and right now he is sporting a lion cut, since his fur was badly matted when he arrived. When it grows out, though, his fur will be long and beautiful! Another fun fact: Pidgey loves to bite water as it runs out of the tap. What a hoot!
Compatible Canine:
Chara

 Chara the Pit/Schnauzer mix
Chara was returned to us because her new owner's son developed allergies to her. She is a sweet pup who is good with children and other dogs. Chara loves to play with squeaky toys and balls, and she is always up for any games. Chara loves to be petted and hugged, and she has a lot of affection to give!

Greetings!

Ah, February! The month of love. Valentine's Day will be here before you know it. Are you ready to show your sweetheart how much he or she means to you? Maybe a ring...or a bouquet of flowers...or a special night on the town. And for your sweet pet, how about an extra-special toy or treat?

Remember, you can always show how much you care by making a donation in honor of or in memory of a loved one. (Or maybe you'd rather just donate now to show your love for our shelter sweeties!) Either way, we thank you for your heartfelt support.

Make Plans to Get Your Pet Microchipped

Don't forget to get your furry friend microchipped at the Cedar Valley Humane Society this Saturday between 11 fingers holding microchipa.m. and 1 p.m. It costs just $35, and there's no appointment necessary.

A microchip about the size of a grain of rice will be implanted between your pet's shoulder blades. The procedure is relatively painless, similar to receiving a shot. If your pet is lost, the person who finds him can bring him to any vet clinic or shelter to be scanned. The unique microchip number will be traced back to you, and you can be happily reunited.

For more information, contact Zach Melton at (319) 362-6288 or zach.melton@cvhumane.org.

We Asked, You Answered!
speech bubble

What's the most unusual pet you've ever had in your family?

Shelleigh Shayn Hamilton: A parrot that flew into our backyard and my mom said we could keep him. He talked about cars and girls.

Nikole Pattison Tutton: I had a tarantula when I was in high school. Mmmmm- loved it when she walked across my hand.

Dan Lichty: I once had a hedgehog!

Jessica Mikesell: Hairless guinea pig, bearded dragons

Volunteer Spotlight: The Mosher Family

hand and pawPamela, Hanna, and Kiefer Mosher began volunteering at the Cedar Valley Humane Society in December. Pamela comes to the shelter several times a week--sometimes twice a day!--to walk the dogs. She brings her children, Hanna and Kiefer, with her as often as she can. The dogs LOVE being walked by the Moshers. Our shelter dogs get stir-crazy in the winter because fewer people volunteer to walk them, so THANK YOU, Pamela, Hanna, and Kiefer, for bundling up to take on this task! (We would also like to congratulate the Moshers on their adoption of Penny. She's certainly a lucky Penny to be a part of this great family!)

Happy Tail: Friendship is Forever

We have the Cedar Valley Humane Society to thank for our four Four cats looking out windowwonderful kitties--Sophie, Milo, Jade, and Otis. We've had Jade and Sophie for 15 years now! (Jade is about 20 years old, if they guessed correctly at her age when we adopted her!) Thank you for all you do for the sweet, homeless pets!

Love and blessings,

Betty S. and Family

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
