Featured Feline: Jerry

Jerry's counterpart and brother, Tom, found a home recently and now Jerry is waiting for a family to claim him, too! Jerry is the more shy brother of the two and he would rather curl up in your lap than ham it up for a crowd. They were found as strays and are estimated to be around 5 months of age. Jerry is lonely here at the shelter and would love to find a family to take him in and call him their own!

Compatible Canine: Ellie

Ellie is a beautiful fawn Pit Bull, estimated to be between 6 month and 1 year of age, who came to us a stray in
July. She had scrapes and scratches on her body that makes us suspect
she was the victim of abuse or wound up in a fight while roaming as a stray. She is
as sweet, shy and submissive as can be and would love to find a forever
home to treat her like the princess she is. The family who found Ellie
as a stray had kids that helped take care of her until we came to the
rescue- so we know she is a great match for a family. Help us battle
this breed's bad rap by giving Ellie a second chance!

Celebrate National Adopt-a-Black-Dog Month!
Did you know ..... that black dogs and cats are generally the last to be adopted in shelters and are given up to shelters by their owners in much larger numbers?
Those involved in animal welfare have dubbed this phenomena "Black Dog and Cat Syndrome." No one knows why Black Dog and Cat Syndrome exists for sure, but at the Cedar Valley Humane Society we wanted to do something to help bring light to the "dark" truth. Cedar Valley Humane Society is launching our very own "Black Dog Society" targeted at pet owners who have dogs with 50% or more black fur. If you adopt a dog with 50% or more black fur from the Cedar Valley Humane Society, the first year of membership is just a $5 donation to the shelter! Don't worry, anyone with a black dog can join for $25, too.
You're Invited: Our FIRST ANNUAL Black Dog event is this weekend! Who: You and your black dog(s) What: Meet-n-greet, games and play time in the courtyard, treats and prizes, too! When: Saturday, Sept. 18th 10AM-11AM Where: Cedar Valley Humane Society Why: To raise awareness of Black Dog and Cat Syndrome!

I have to admit in the winter I do put a doggy tshirt or sweater on my miniature schnauzer Sage Skogman Roby: if it is cold some dogs need sweaters! Robert Chiusano: i tried an ugly sweater on one of our dogs for an ugly christmas sweater
party, but she kept trying to bite it off all night...but i was doing
the same thing to mine so i couldnt blame her.

Volunteer Spotlight:Jessica Staskal
Jessica Staskal was an asset to our shelter in her time here as a Fundraising and Marketing Intern. She helped plan and execute many different events such as Until They All Find a Home, Putts for Pets, Noelridge Farmer's Markets and many adoption events. Jessica spent countless summer days inside the humane society making cold calls to obtain in-kind donations for raffle and silent auction prizes. She also made it a priority to get to know all the different homeless dogs and cats under our roof so she could create detailed personality profiles in hopes of getting them adopted more quickly. Jessica is always ready and willing to help in any way she can and she embraces each learning experience she comes across! Thank you for all of your hard work, Jessica, and good luck at Drake this year! If you want to volunteer or intern, just ask us how! |

Happy Tail: Gus the Black Lab
Traci told us all about her family's happy tail: "We adopted Gus the Black Lab and he's great!! At the beginning he was a little
scared..but soon he was climbing on the couch with the family cuddling! We take him to the park to play with the kids A LOT! He loves it! One
evening we took him with us to swim at the lake. He didn't quite know what to do, so first he
took a drink, then noticed he was in water and started jumping like a rabbit in
the water! It was so funny! Now whenever he gets really excited he
does his bunny hop, Ha, Ha !! I also run a childcare and he's wonderful with all
the children. We couldn't ask for a better dog, thanks for letting us adopt Gus, Cedar Valley Humane Society!"
Remember, YOU can send us your happy tail, too! |
