Featured Feline: Beaker
Beaker came to us in late July with his litter mates. They were born on a farm and hope to find new homes through our shelter. He is the only brother who's cream in color, the others are light grey. Beaker is your typical kitten: he loves balls that jingle and play mice to chase around. He is always ready to be cuddled and would love to lay in your arms and purr for hours. After he gets his energy out on his toys, that is! Come meet this handsome boy today!

Compatible Canine: Buddy
Buddy, a 4 year old Weimeraner, was given up to us in early July. He didn't do well with the cats in his previous family, so we are looking for a better suited match for him. He has done well so far at the shelter and loves everyone he meets. We believe he'd be a good candidate for a running buddy or hunting dog. Come meet this beautiful purebred today, he would love to meet you!

Kitten Shower a Sweet Success!
Last Saturday, Old Navy hosted us for a Kitten Shower at their store. We decorated an area of the store in a baby shower theme and brought eight lovable kittens to meet the public. A majority of the kittens found permanent homes! Donations were accepted and we brought in hundreds of dollars worth of supplies for our shelter sweeties! THANK YOU to all who stopped out and so generously contributed to our cause.

Volunteer Spotlight: Abby Ortberg
Abby Ortberg has been a huge asset to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in her time here as a Fundraising and Marketing Intern. She has helped plan and execute many different events such as Until They All Find a Home, Putts for Pets, Noelridge Farmer's Markets and many adoption events. Abby spent countless summer days inside the shelter making cold calls to obtain in-kind donations for raffle and silent auction prizes. She also made it a priority to get to know all the different homeless dogs and cats under our roof so she could create detailed personality profiles in hopes of getting them adopted more quickly. Abby can always be counted on for a good laugh, too, and we are so happy she decided to spend her summer at Cedar Valley Humane Society helping out! Thank you for all of your hard work, Abby, and good luck at Mizzou this year! If you want to volunteer or intern, just ask us how! |
Happy Tail, Special Edition: CVHS to NYC
Last week Cedar Valley Humane Society's long term resident, Meowzer was
given a second chance at a happy ending. This plump, senior tabby cat
seemed an unlikely candidate to transition from homeless hobo to big
city lights.
When his new owner, a volunteer cat-socializer, began getting to know
all the different feline personalities around the shelter she was
immediately taken by Meowzer. "He just wanted to cuddle and lick my
face," Carolyn explained. It wasn't until mid-August did she seriously
consider toting him back to Manhattan with her as she was set to begin
her Master's program at Columbia University this fall.
"I knew the influx of cats and kittens from springtime breeding was
leaving the Cedar Valley Humane Society with more homeless pets than
families coming to adopt them," Carolyn lamented. That's when she
realized that adopting Meowzer was the least she could do. It turned
out, as she soon realized, that it wasn't only a good hearted act of
kindness to add "Meowzer's Mom" to her perfectly polished resume.
"Moving to New York City is a huge change in my life. Having a companion
to call my own while I'm there will be a source of comfort and
happiness for me!" She told CVHS adoption counselors.

Manhattan, or to learn the mutually beneficial reasons to add a shelter
pet to your home, check out: http://twitter.com/CVHumane
Remember, YOU can send us your happy tail, too! |
