Featured Feline: Meowzer
Meowzer
Meowzer came to the shelter when his previous owners could no longer afford him. He's very social and loves to be around people-especially those he can nuzzle up to! He has become a favorite of the staff here at the shelter and would love to meet you today!
Compatible Canine: Max
Black Dog Max
Max is a 9 mo. old pup who  has been here at our shelter longer than any other dog and deserves to find a loving family to call his own! He is excitable at first because of his young age and bubbly personality, but after just a few minutes he will calm down and put his head in your lap and request some rubs. He was present at our mini golf event, Putts 4 Pets, last weekend and proved to be a true gentleman! Come meet Max today, he's been waiting to show you what a good companion he will be! Max is proud to be a member of our Black Dog Society.

Why TWO Kittens are Better than ONE!
Adoption Cat Room

1. One kitten can become lonely - Often, a kitten left alone easily becomes lonely and bored, and will be more likely to be more destructive and get into trouble.
2. Two kittens will self-train - Kittens learn by copying  each other, so as soon as one learns proper little box habits, the second will follow. They will also learn to groom each other.
3. They'll tire each other out - Two kittens will play fight during the day, which will help to burn the copious amounts of energy that kittens have.
4. They'll have fewer behavior issues - A lot of people have found out the hard way that when kittens or cats develop unwanted behaviors, it is usually due to boredom. Two kittens will never be bored.
5. You'll have more fun - If you've ever watched kittens play with each other, we don't need to explain this one. Everyone knows it's a ton of fun to watch two kittens play!

speech bubbleWe Asked, You Answered!
Do YOU think dogs should be allowed at the Farmer's Market? Some opinions on this hot debate...

Robyn Douglas: "Well behaved dogs on a regular leash should be welcomed (NOT on a retractable lead...ouch!) My dogs are better behaved than most peoples kids...and no one questions a parents right to bring them to the market."
Stephanie Filer: " I wish people wouldn't bring their dogs to the Farmer's Markets. It's usually too hot for most of the dogs and WAY too many people. This stresses most dogs out so I really don't get why their owner would WANT to bring them to the Farmer's Market. Take them to the dog park instead."
Michael Albee: "I have brought mine to FM on occation, but only to proof training and to help socialize them to ppl. and other dogs. If done correctly AND responsibly I think it can be great training tool. I dont go into the middle of things, I just work the edges. This keeps stress to a minimum. And like all good owners, I carry plenty of water for them."

hand and pawVolunteer Spotlight: Robin Odean
A big THANK YOU to Robin Odean (Cedar Valley Humane Society's own Board Secretary) and a group of volunteers from Four Oaks who came to paint the staff offices on Friday, July 16th.  Robin also donated all the supplies and paint.  The offices were transformed from a light purple color to a smooth Latte color. They fixed all the holes and scuffs in the wall, too. Thank you all!

If you want to volunteer, just ask us how!
Happy Tail
Scrappy and DaphneJeana and her family adopted a Rottweiler/Terrier mix puppy from the Cedar Valley Humane Society in February. Her name was Purdie at the time. "Her name became Daphne, as we already had a pup named Scrappy - so she and the new name fit perfectly!" Jeana informed us.

Says Jeana, "Daphne is now almost a year old - and doing wonderful.  She's grown quite a bit since you last saw her.  She started out weighing around 20lbs, now she weighs almost 50.  She is very healthy, social, happy and gets a long great with our entire family. Thank you for allowing her to join our family - we couldn't imagine life without her!"

Remember, YOU can send us your happy tail, too!
