CROW'S CORNER
|
|
Senior Pastor George Crow
Thanks to your generosity and to the hard work of our High School & Middle School teams, almost $5700.00 was collected for the Souper Bowl of Caring. May these gifts be used to bring Christ's light and hope to many currently walking through deep valleys.
Congratulations to Ginny & David Blease (& grandparents Gayle & Gray Ballance) on the birth, Feb 3, in Charleston of a little girl, ADDISON LANE BLEASE. We all rejoice with you on this joyous occasion!
The sympathy of the congregation is extended to Morgan & Stephanie Tolley and family on the death of their grandmother, Barbara Tolley, of Elkview, WV, yesterday, February 7. May God grant His great comfort and peace during this time of grief.
If you want to listen to a wonderful modern day "prophet of God," click on this link and fast forward to the 35 minute mark of last week's National Prayer Breakfast. Eric Metaxas, author most recently of the great and convicting book, BONHOEFFER, delivers one of the most pointed and powerful messages, I dare say, has been heard by those in the corridors of power in a long time. Thousands were present, including the President and First Lady as well as the Vice President and numerous others from the executive and legislative branches of our government. Metaxas is a master at using humor and grace to communicate deep foundational and controversial Biblical truths. Would that more of us claiming Christ as our Lord would emulate his winsome and penetrating style! His talk lasts about 30 minutes and ends with him leading the entire gathering in singing "Amazing Grace" a cappella. (And just for the record, I have no idea if Mr. Metaxas is a Republican or Democrat.)
My message this Sunday from Matthew 11:28-30 is entitled, THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, Part 5 of 6: "Gentleness." Hope to see you if you are healthy and will be in town.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Crow

Pastor Tony Myers
Ash Wednesday Prayer Service Join us on Wednesday, February 22 for a special Ash Wednesday Prayer Service in the Grand Hall, 6:30 - 7:15 pm. Ash Wednesday traditionally marks the beginning of Lent, a time of spiritual preparation through prayer, repentance, giving and fasting leading up to Holy Week and Easter. As we look ahead to our remembrance of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ we invite you to come to this sermon-less prayer service. Fran Sullivan and Jimmy Smith have come together to plan our time of worship in song. Several of our own church family will share personal testimonies. And of course, we will take time to come together in prayers of adoration, confession, supplication and dedication. Regular Wednesday night children's program and nursery are provided. No registration necessary, but remember to sign up for dinner if you plan on coming early to eat.
Getting Renewed on Wednesdays (G.R.O.W.)
Our winter session continues TONIGHT, 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Grand Hall. We will use Resolving Everyday Conflict, a study by Peacemaker Ministries. Conflict is all around us. It ruins relationships, robs the joy out of life, and damages our witness in the world. Come and learn how the gospel gives us a vision and the power to live at peace with others. This study offers practical biblical answers for a problem we all face every day. No registration required. For more information, see the church website or contact Pastor Myers. |

Gina Walsh & Lisa Yantek SAVE THE DATE for Vacation Bible School June 25 - 29 Donate a High Chair If you have an extra high chair that you can donate for our Wednesday Night dinners please contact Gina Walsh. Promiseland Supports Compassion International
Were you aware that the classes in Promiseland sponsor two children through Compassion International? The Sunday School offering taken up every week is used to support a boy named Wabyona and a girl named Carol. Wabyona lives in Uganda and will turn 10 on January 19. Carol lives in Kenya and will turn 9 in March.
The combined support for these precious children is $92 a month. For the past two months, the offerings collected have not been nearly enough to cover this cost. If this is a project you would like your family to support, would you encourage your child to use some of his/her money or earn some offering money doing extra chores to send to Carol and Wabyona?
Kdg/1st/2nd - We, Like Sheep, Need a Shepherd
This group will be leaving its "Extreme" unit and moving into the unit entitled "Show Me the Shepherd." Throughout the next five weeks, the children will be learning different characteristics of sheep and shepherds - a real agrarian theme!
3rd/4th/5th - We All Need Each Other
The older children will also be entering a new unit. They will be going on a "Gift Quest" for three lessons. They will be encouraged to find their spiritual gift and use it to serve and build each other up.
PRAISE CONNECTION - Diane Cotran Praise Connection for 4 year olds through 5th graders! Come join in the fun downstairs in the Promiseland area on Wednesday nights, 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
