Quakertown National Bank Provides Support

Earlier this month, Quakertown National Bank donated $500 to Heritage Conservancy through their 2012 Collector Calendar campaign, where voluntary donations were accepted to benefit three nature conservancies. The two other conservancies were our friends at Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy and Wildlands Conservancy. Thanks to Quakertown National Bank customers, a total of $1,500 was raised and divided evenly among the three local conservancies.

The conservation areas covered by these conservancies include the Green Lane Reservoir, Perkiomen, Little Lehigh and Unami Creeks, The South Mountain Preserve and the Quakertown Swamp. To learn more about our efforts in the Quakertown Swamp, click HERE or visit our table at the 2012 Calvary Outdoors Expo on March 3rd from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Do you have an old house? Do you wish the walls could talk? If you are curious about how to learn the history of a house and how to discover who's lived there in the past, join Heritage Conservancy's Jeffrey Marshall in an illustrated lecture on tracing the genealogy of an old home. He will explain the process from deed research to will examination, orphans records and other primary sources and give tips on what clues to look for that will help interpret the available data.

Historic Barns

at Aldie Mansion in Doylestown, PA

In addition to being President of Heritage Conservancy, Jeff Marshall is the Vice President of the board of directors of the National Barn Alliance. Many Faces, One Voice: Meet Erin Hockensmith

A newer member of the Heritage Conservany team, Erin Hockensmith works within the Conservancy's Properties & Programs department, where she maintains the grounds of beautiful Aldie Mansion, as well as many other Heritage Conservancy properties. She is currently being trained to monitor properties and create baselines through the Conservancy's career development plan, and will eventually do these tasks on her own.

Erin also coordinates all in-house events at Aldie Mansion, from caterer selection to food and décor. Most people in the area are familiar with Aldie Mansion as a wedding venue, but many don't realize that the space is also available to rent for smaller events like corporate lunches, bridal showers, fashion shows and parties. To learn more about booking your next event at Aldie Mansion, click HERE or contact Erin at (215)-345-7020 x134.

The library in Aldie Mansion set up for a local fashion show benefit.

"I've always loved the outdoors! Ever since I can remember, my dream has been to work at an environmental organization like Heritage Conservancy," said Hockensmith. "I love to make things beautiful. It's been wonderful to have the opportunity to make both the outdoors and indoors attractive. I truly enjoy transforming the mansion into a welcoming, elegant space for events of all kinds. And what's more, proceeds from the events benefit the Conservancy and our

preservation mission."

Prior to joining Heritage Conservancy, Erin graduated from Temple University with a B.A. in Environmental Studies. She brings with her five years of experience in plant maintenance from Bountiful Acres

Garden Nursery.

Why We LOVE What We Do

A Message from Our Chief Operating Officer

Earlier this month, the country celebrated Valentine's Day; a day that provides the opportunity to reflect upon what warms our hearts. While many of us were probably focusing on a special someone, some of us here at Heritage Conservancy took a moment to contemplate why we love working for an organization whose mission is to protect and preserve our natural and historic heritage. Here is what just a

few of us said:

"I love working for Heritage Conservancy because I'm part of a committed team with a common goal that's close to my heart: saving the environment in which we live."

-Sharon Young, Properties & Programs Coordinator

"I meet and work with amazing, talented and enthusiastic people who really want to make a difference in their environment and the land that they leave for the next generation."

-Susan Myerov, Senior Planner

"I enjoy fundraising for the Conservancy because I get to combine my love of people with my passion for preservation. When I see our signs that say 'this property is preserved by Heritage Conservancy,' I feel satisfied knowing that my work will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come."

-Robin Folkerts, Vice President of Development

"I love working for Heritage Conservancy because it gives me the opportunity to work with dedicated people who share my passion for protecting the environment!"

-Laura Baird, Resource Protection Specialist

You can see why it warms my heart to work alongside such dedicated and knowledgeable colleagues who understand how important it is to ensure the preservation of our land and natural resources for communities today and in the future.

Kind regards,

Linda Cacossa

Chief Operating Officer
