Saving Bucks County's Bats
Heritage Conservancy invites you to attend this important lecture on the local efforts to save the regional bat population from extinction.

Greg Turner, a Wildlife Biologist and Endangered Mammal Specialist with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, will discuss monitoring bats and their habitat, implementing conservation projects and researching White - Nose Syndrome (WNS), a devastatingly infectious disease that has claimed the lives of over a million bats.
The focus will be on the treatment/prevention project at Heritage Conservancy's Durham Bat Hibernaculum and the collaborative efforts of both organizations to help the surviving bats to safely roost and reproduce.

Farm-to-Table Event Promotes Sustainable Agriculture, Local Farming, Partnerships and Community
Annual Celebration Also Spotlights Historic Lindsay Farm Preserve
Over 120 friends and supporters of
Heritage Conservancy and its sustainable agriculture/local farming initiatives gathered at the Conservancy's historic Lindsay Farm Preserve to celebrate nature, community and savory food from over 30 local farmers and vendors.
While the seemingly endless menu of wholesome diversity pleased the palate with nurturing goodness, the array of unique silent auction items and 'down-home' live music added to the aura of the evening.
"Our 'From Farm-to-Table' gathering is not only an important fundraising event, said Robin Folkerts, VP of Advancement and Communications, "but it also brings together growers, chefs and concerned residents in support of our local food enterprises. And we truly appreciate the work of our dedicated volunteers and the generosity of the many donors and patrons who made this magical evening possible."
The Conservancy recently undertook a sustainable agriculture/food systems initiative to help transition existing farmland to sustainable practices, starting with the 400 acres that it owns as demonstration sites, including the Lindsay Farm Preserve where 'From Farm to Table' was held.

Nakashima Complex Receives National Register of Historic Places Marker
On
Friday, August 13, 2010, some fifty friends and family members gathered at the Solebury Township property of the acclaimed Modern furniture designer and woodworker, George Nakashima, to celebrate the installation of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's marker commemorating the site's placement on the National Register of Historic Places.
Heritage Conservancy worked closely with the Nakashima family to successfully complete the nomination to National Register of Historic Places for the 20th century building complex, which was officially listed by the National Park Service on August 14, 2008.
The quiet hillside compound, comprised of 19 buildings, was constructed from 1946 to 1991. Of the 19 buildings, 17 are considered contributing resources to the National Register listing and are used for a variety of purposes including residences, education, production, storage and administration related to the work of Nakashima. All were designed, built and landscaped by the master craftsman. The George Nakashima House, Studio and Workshop were nominated for the National Register for their association with the famous craftsman and for significance of the International Style buildings designed, engineered and built by Nakashima.
