Heritage Conservancy Celebrates National Volunteer Week by Recognizing the Contributions of an Inspired Leader

Meet Michele Koch, Our Volunteer Coordinator!

When we decided to expand our volunteer program, we never imagined that one person -- a volunteer -- would be so instrumental in its success.

Michele KochMichele Koch came to us as a volunteer last fall and we immediately noticed her creativity, bubbling personality, can-do attitude and top-notch organizational skills. So when we were looking for a coordinator to jump-start our program, she seemed like the perfect fit.

"I was looking for increased community involvement, but not a full-time job," exclaimed Michele. "As an environmentally conscious person, I was drawn to Heritage Conservancy's mission of conservation and wanted to help in any way I could.  I didn't realize that in return, I would gain so much knowledge and experience.  Volunteering at the Conservancy was one of the best decisions I ever made!"

Thanks to Michele's inspiration and hard work, we now have more than 100 volunteers contributing their time and talent to a broad array of projects that are matched to their interests and skills, including community education, gardening, property stewardship, office work, and special event planning.

Michele has truly given us reason to celebrate National Volunteer Week!

Help Celebrate the Great American Cleanup of PA and Pick It Up PA Days

Heritage Conservancy encourages everyone to join this ambitious statewide effort to remove litter and trash from Pennsylvania's roadways, parks, forests, riverbanks, neighborhoods and open spaces.

PA Cleanup_1We all
want to live, work and play in a clean and green community... and it's up to YOU to make it possible and improve the overall quality of life for us all.

Join Pennsylvanians across the state - and Americans across the nation - in cleaning up litter and trash along our roadsides, streams, parks, forests and neighborhoods. Anyone can help!
Community and civic associations, school and youth groups, families and friends, business employees, hunting and fishing clubs, conservation organizations, sport teams and others can organize their members and participate in the Great American Cleanup of PA.

PA Cleanup

During the Great American Cleanup of PA, registered events can get free cleanup supplies, such as bags, gloves, and vests donated by PennDOT and Keep America Beautiful. During the two-week period of the Pick It Up PA Days, DEP and participating landfills are sponsoring free disposal for registered events.

Let's Pick It Up PA - Every Day!

Did You Know?  During the 2009 PA cleanup event, volunteers collected almost 7 million pounds of garbage!
