A Lasting Legacy of Leadership
John Quincy Adams once said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." There are leaders all around us. Special Olympics Idaho knows that leaders-those who inspire-are the individuals who can bring a better quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities.

The end of July will see the annual Special Olympics Idaho Leadership Conference where Local Program Coordinators grow to encourage others to dream, learn, and become more than themselves. This year, the conference will feature a demonstration of Unified Sports™ and Partner's ClubsŪ. The demonstration will show the purpose, benefits, and practical applications of Unified Sports™. Attendees will also learn how to form youth-based Partner's ClubsŪ.

Since the Special Olympics World Winter Games were held in Idaho this past February, Partner's ClubsŪ and Unified Sports™ have grown tremendously. These two programs pair people with and without intellectual disabilities for social and athletic interaction. The dedicated people who are involved in Unified programs are true leaders as; they inspire everyone around them to reach their full potential.

Thank you to all of the leaders out there.

Warmest regards,
Laurie Lafollette

All-Unified Fall Competition
The first ever all-Unified Sports™ competition is coming this fall!

Unified Sports™ builds teams of those with and without intellectual disabilities. You can be a teammate to a Special Olympics athlete in one of three sports this fall:

Unified Volleyball

Unified 5 on 5 Socceracross the finish line

Alternate Shot Golf

This is a great opportunity to get involved with Special Olympics and have fun with the athletes. Unified Partners have the same practice requirements as athletes-- 4 weeks of training for Area Games and 8 weeks for State Games.

To find a Unified team near you, contact Corby Goade at cg@idso.org or (208) 323-0482 ext. 22.

Volunteer Spotlight- Jennifer Clayton
In recognition of her efforts with Special Olympics Idaho's Healthy Athletes- Special Smiles, Jennifer Clayton has received the Hygienist Heroes Award from the American Dental Hygienist Association (ADHA) and Johnson & Johnson!

As a dental hygienist, Clayton is on the "front-lines" of dental care. She is often the first and last professional to speak with patients about the importance of preventative oral care. It is with compassion and diligence that she volunteers her time to help those with intellectual disabilities.

In addition to being honored at the ADHA's annual session, honorees receive $1,000 to give to a charity-of-choice and Clayton chose Special Olympics Idaho. Thank you, Jennifer, for your continued dedication, you are deeply appreciated!
