Greetings!
This weekender edition is NOT another project...this is a conversation starter! I don't know about you, but Dan (my hubby in case I didn't mention him before) and I have many conversations about home improvement projects, much to his dismay. While he is contemplating a weekend by the pool, I have WAY too many ideas roaming around in my head!
Last weekend's conversation revolved around my plans to re-work the fireplace in the family room (see the SoCal WhiteHouse blog for updates!). Our conversations go something like this:
Me: "Sweetie...I was thinking...wouldn't it be nice if we did _____". Dan: "That does sound interesting, but it won't work because ____". Me: "Perhaps if we were to ____, it might work. I know if youmull it over, you'll have a ideas to ______". Dan (the next morning): "You know, if we were to do _____, I bet we could get this done next weekend." Presto! (Love ya honey!)
So here, just to get YOUR conversation started.
If you're receiving my newsletter it's a safe bet we agree on this: decorating is FUN! Having a cohesive, well-planned decor can give us pleasure and satisfaction in our homes. A home that presents well, makes us proud when friends and family come to visit. But did you know that there are many home improvements that add VALUE to your home?

Sadly, this is not to say that by taking your home from Mushroom Beige to Pale Mushroom Beige will enhance the value. But let's say you've moved into or live in a home that has a somewhat ... unfortunate ... color choice on the exterior. Correcting the curb appeal of this feature, can instantly update your homes perceived value. A Remodel. It must go without saying that when you upgrade any of the expensive elements of your home you will increase the value. But do you know how much? Here are some basic ROI's from Financial Highway Website: - Steel Entry Door - 102%
- Garage Door - 84%
- Wood Deck - 80%
- Minor Kitchen Remodel - 72.8%
- Siding Replacement - 72.4%
And the biggest bang for your buck? "...your best bet is to make general cosmetic improvements to your home. Fresh paint, adding window treatments, upgrading fixtures, and doing a deep clean for your carpet, can be a real help. Outside, keeping your landscaping neat and attractive, and even putting in garden boxes, can be relatively inexpensive ways to improve the appeal of your home. Simple, small fixes are often those that provide you with the best bang for your buck." | | Simple Spruce Ups, Reap Great Rewards |
Enjoy the weekend (and the conversation)!
