Greetings!

Happy May!  It's that time of year when the kids are all getting a little antsy....impatiently waiting for summer vacation to be with us again.  OH to be that age again!

Just for the record, this is my favorite time of year.  To me, it's the season of the most promise.  All the glorious weather is in front of us and the garden has bulbs bursting into color?  Fantastic!

On the home front, I'm heading to a first prom and a high school graduation.  Yikes!  Work is busy as well with several projects recently completed, in the works and up and coming.

Five Favorite Decorating Tips

Have you ever watched a decorating show and wondered what a designer would say if  he/she came into your home to work with you?  The decorating shows can be pretty intimidating.  Sometimes they really make the homeowner look like - well, they can't decorate!  But with just a few insider tips, you might be surprised at what you can do!

Tip #1 - Start Over..  I know, I know, this sounds like a biggie, but the best way to see the possibilities that a room has is by taking everything out and starting over.  But if that seems too overwhelming, start small.

Remove all of the accessories on a shelf and re-place and re-do them - it will feel totally refreshed!

Tip #2 - Get Rid of "Stuff."  "Stuff" is another great way to date a room - so many of us just push something over and add another piece, and soon your room isn't decorated as much as it is a place where stuff goes.  So when you remove your things to start over - don't use them all!

Tip #3 - Lighting, Lighting, Lighting!  Almost without fail - virtually every home I work in does not have enough lighting.  Mood lighting isn't just for bedrooms and low lighting - it is not easy to stay upbeat, cheerful and enthusiastic when you are straining to see what you are working on or doing.  So go ahead - add a lamp - or two!

Look what a difference a slipcover makes...this is borrowed from a great re-designer online!

Tip #4
- Update Your Fabrics.  Your furniture might be perfectly fine, but since it makes up the majority of the feel of a room, your fabric plays a major role.  If it looks or feels dated, there is a quick fix - slipcovers!  Fresh throw pillows, or just a throw can freshen up your look.

Wow, what a difference the little things will make.

Tip #5 - Don't Forget Your Windows! - Yes, sometimes a window shouldn't be dressed - when it is so architecturally inspiring on its own or if you are a minimalist in the truest sense of the word - otherwise, those windows are naked!  Get some fabric up there, softening the room and making it all the more inviting.

Take a look around your room and put some of these tips to use - and don't forget you can always call me if you need some help - I promise not to be like those designers on tv!

Avaliving

Have you ever been interested in HGTV's "rate my space"?  I'm now a featured designer on Avaliving.  This is a great website for all you home project fans.   One of the cool things they offer is
Avaliving's Designer Room Reviews

Avaliving is an excellent online source to see what designers around the country are doing.  In January, I was honored to be featured on the homepage for a project I worked on last summer - the Street of Dreams.  My primary focus on this joint venture was the Master Bedroom Suite.  In addition to it's featured position on the Avaliving website, it also took People's Choice awards for the Street of Dreams  There are a few pictures from this project on the Avaliving site and more on my personal website.

It's a blog world out there...

...and I'm posting fairly regularly...would love to hear from YOU what you'd like to read about.  If there is something you'd like to know more about in the coming year with regards to your home, please email me and let me know!

So far the blog has tips and advice, links to other sites you might find interesting or useful, interior inspirations I think you might like and projects I've been working on.  I've also got a series buried in there somewhere about my personal interior projects...just to make you feel comfortable that you're not alone in your endeavors.

As you or may not know, I have a fascination with chandeliers and have started to take pictures every time I see one in a shop that I think is noteworthy.  If YOU'RE in love with chandeliers, visit the blog, the type 'chandelier' in the search box and enjoy!
