As we approach Holy Week...
| | Almighty God, whose dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

the Rev. Shirley Bowen, diocesan Campus Missioner and Episcopal Chaplain at the University of Southern Maine, upon receiving the Caring About Lives in Maine award from the Maine Suicide Prevention Program.
The people of St. Peter's, Rockland, who raised $8,000 for their neighbors in need last month at their Share the Love auction. All of the proceeds of the auction were distributed to agencies in our communities who deal with emergency services of food, fuel, and shelter.
With great need in the community amplified by cuts in various federal and state programs and nonprofit agencies, Fr. Glenn Mahaffey of St. Peter's said, "most of the people who need assistance have had a major event take place in their lives recently, such as sudden unemployment, the sickness or death of a family member, unexpected medical bills or other circumstances outside of their control." Necessities such as food and fuel continue to cost more, which makes individuals and families even more vulnerable when an unanticipated crisis strikes. St. Peter's is already beginning to plan for a second annual Share the Love auction in 2013. |
