Thank You!
Thank You!
Thank You!To all of riders who braved the stormy weather - with and without their horse companions - as some came just to offer support and join in the solidarity of our purpose. To all of the volunteers who shared their time and energy to help the day run smoothly. And to all of you who donated funds to help the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® find a cure for breast cancer, I thank you. For me, this ride combines my passion for horses with my firm belief that it is possible to eradicate breast cancer. Together, through the 3rd annual Ride for the Cure, MA, we raised over $108,000! 75% of these proceeds will remain in our community to fund local breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects. The balance of 25% supports the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs, funding ground breaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards, and educational and scientific programs around the world. Thank you all for helping to make a difference in the many extraordinary lives touched by this disease. I look forward to seeing you all again next year! |

A Path to What You Deserve How many times have you told yourself, "I really want...(fill in the blank), but I shouldn't." Or perhaps you make a deal with yourself, "If I get this done, THEN I'll let myself..." So many rules and equations! What if you deserve to have what you want - no matter what? Imagine there is nothing to do, no list to complete, no bargain to make, you simply DESERVE. The rules, the if/then's, and the "but I can't," are born from an underlying belief that we don't truly deserve love, connection, happiness, and the full range of human experiences. We believe this, because we weren't always allowed to have them. Our needs didn't always get met, and so we made up a story that we didn't "get" because we didn't "deserve." Treat yourself to the experience of Getting a Taste of What You Deserve?! and truly know, in your bones, that you deserve what you want and need in this life. It's the first step to getting it. The power of truly knowing what it is to feel deserving will be a gift you offer to yourself, and take with you into your life.

The arrival of my favorite season means vacations for many; folks dashing off to enjoy the freedom of school out of session, warm weather gracing our days, and the sense of melting tensions that summer allows. Recently, I read a Boston.com article about what makes for a memorable vacation. The author made some interesting points, supported by studies and data, explaining that the quality of your time off largely depends upon the intensity of your vacation activities - not the number of days you cobble together. This "intensity" may be positive or negative, but regardless, the heightened energy creates a lasting memory.
Reviewing some of my own vacation memories, this theory holds true. From the extraordinary laughter with friends as they fall over each other in the warm, saltwater of St. John (above), or when a friend jumped out at a stop light to do a lap around our rental van with a police cruiser watching us across the street (not at 18 years old, but at 40!), to the crazy Virginia thunder / lightening / torrential rain storm that slowed our family's progress down to Jacksonville, FL one summer night...soaking the roof top carrier and drip, drip, dripping rain inside the car where the carrier was tied on, or racing to a Miami hospital because my husband got 2nd degree burns from a faulty Starbucks cup...each event holds a place of memory in my mind and in my body.
Recalling each scenario, I notice the different responses my body produces, feeling as though I am there right now. The way my facial muscles respond to the laughter, and the way my heart beats faster from the thunder that enveloped us; this is how my body holds the memory of those vital experiences.
This closely relates to my coaching work. Everyday, I witness the impact of trauma and the resulting body memory; memories that hold us back from our greatest possibilities, because they are "stuck" in us, until we notice and release them. One of the critically important parts of this work is having a place - a memory - to "glide" to; a safe place, when everything just lined up. A time when you knew you were exactly where you were meant to be, like being in a van filled with friends while one of them runs around the outside - feeling the laughter filling the body inside and out. At What's Next?! Workshop we call it a "just right moment."
Through classes, training, and my own intuitive sense, I know the importance and power of a "just right moment," but most accessible data relates to traumatic encounters, not intensely positive events. Within this simple vacation article, could be a wealth of information for how to link one "just right moment" to the next. By allowing the passion and intensity of your own experience, positive memories may be created, and those, too, will reside in your body. As we string together a series of "just right moments" we forge new neuro-pathways in our body. The neurons that send messages to our brain can truly fire on all cylinders in a way that engages our feelings of well being, rather than those reactions resulting from stress and trauma.
There is no short cut. But if you have released old reactive patterns, you might consider what you want to fill that space with. What are the new mind-body memories you wish to create, and might those be "just right moments" to support your future growth, and well being?
So, what fabulously powerful experience can you allow yourself to have today? Something that feels absolutely right for you, allowing you to be truly who you are...creating a memory that will support you in the tomorrows to come. Now, what if you opened the space for this sort of intensity in your life daily? Could everyday feel as wonderful as a memorable vacation? It might be worth a try.

Digesting Life With Ease What a transformational year for me! Over the past ten months, I have travelled to Boulder, Colorado monthly as a student in the inaugural class of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating led by founder and director, Marc David. From the first class through the last, I learned new tools, discovered methods of seeing and experiencing true embodiment practices, and studied mind-body nutrition theories that will allow me to take my practice to a deeper, more consciously rooted level. I learned so much that, even in 30 years of practice, I might not appreciate what I have come to know through this program.
As a result of this training, I am working on an audio series focused on the effects of the physiologic stress response in the body. The specific topic relates to how we "digest our lives." This series will include: effects on our weight, sleep, body image, and general health.
For those of you living outside the Israeli borders, stay tuned for my English version as this first edition will be for a Hebrew speaking audience. My attention has been drawn to Israeli people as a starting place, because it's where I started. Throughout this past year, I have become increasingly aware of the deficiencies my birth place suffers from when it comes to taking it easy. In my experience, the concept of slowing down, enjoying relaxation techniques, and the practice of pleasure and "enough-ness" feel absent. And so, with this very personal project, I hope to encourage people to relax with their foods, their lives, and their attitude.
I extend enormous gratitude to Marc and his staff, my fellow students who have become great friends and my family and existing friends who offered me tremendous support throughout this intense year. And to my clients, thank you for growing with me. I can hardly contain my excitement about the amazing new ways I will now be able to support your healthful journey.
With my new credentials, I am proud to announce that I am more qualified than ever before to educate, coach, and counsel in the field of Dynamic Eating Psychology and Mind Body Nutrition! Issues such as: weight, energy levels and fatigue, body image, digestion concerns, pain, mood, chronic dieting, over eating/binging and immunity are all topics for which I am certified to offer support.
I look forward seeing you, Nathalie |

Honoring the Graduates
The Consciousness Collaborative congratulates several members who have stretched, grown, and recently succeeded in completing three separate and challenging programs. In May, Reiki Master-Teacher, Liz Giargiari, graduated from Hesser College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. With this first hurdle behind her, Liz is continuing her educational journey, now working toward her Master of Science degree in Psychology from New England College. Way to go, Liz! On June 12th, Walter Bacigalupo, along with five classmates, earned his certification from the Institute for Conscious Counseling and Coaching. This two-year program, taught by April Prita Manganiello, focuses attention on creating new pathways and re-education of emotional and somatic pathways. Nice job, Walter! And finally, as noted in Nathalie Blitz's column this month, she just completed a one-year intensive program in Boulder, Colorado through the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. As part of the inaugural class, Nathalie learned directly from the Institute's founder and director, Marc David - an author and well known expert in this field. Well done, Nathalie! And it's nice to have you home for a while. As the founder of The Consciousness Collaborative, it is a privilege to work with professionals so dedicated to their continued learning and personal growth work. I encourage you to allow yourself the experience of working with each of these talented members.

Writer's block. Uggh! Well, that's not quite correct. Writer's spiral defines the feeling better. This month, creating prose for community consumption nearly eluded me. Ideas presented themselves. Concepts a more disciplined mind might use to amuse, educate, and soothe an interested public. But the thoughts simply wouldn't flow into sentences and paragraphs. So, I almost cheated! Actually, the free space led to a new notion: Readers' Choice.
With several ideas swirling, and nothing quite taking hold until the last minute, I started wondering what you'd like to see. Faithful reader, this is your chance to chime in! Below please find a short list of topics. The phrases describe my personal "keywords" for inspiration. I invite you to browse through them and notice if anything peaks your curiosity. Then click on the poll to share which category you'd most like featured in a future newsletter. The selection receiving the greatest response by July 10th will appear as one of the next featured articles.
I'm hedging my bets just a bit on the timing, in case another column pours out of me and into my hard drive, willing itself to publication for August 1st; however, your voice will be heard! The most popular selection may be masked by an unfamiliar title in the corresponding subject line by the time it reaches your in-box. I find, as a topic evolves, new perspectives emerge. Regardless, I will be sure to reference the original "keywords" in homage to the Readers' Choice.
Have fun, and thanks for participating! Go to the survey.
Building Blocks fundamental beliefs upon which we construct our lives

Meditation of the Month
 SkyGazing
"We love. That is why human life is beautiful!" - Rumi
This month's meditation comes from Lama Surya Das, "Natural Radiance." SkyGazing is a way we can learn to relax, let go, and let be in the natural state of things, just as they are. It can help us to deeply know that there is enough of everything - time, money, love - by allowing ourselves to open and expand into beautiful space. This month, as the rest of the year opens before us, I invite you to allow space and abundance, and allow this meditation to support you! It is best done outside.
Arriving Sit on the floor, on a cushion, or in a chair. Your back should be erect, but not rigid. Rest your arms on your thighs, wherever they naturally fall. Your eyes remain open for this meditation.
Intensifying Bring your awareness to the out-breath. Do not change the rhythm or depth of your breathing-just notice how the air feels as it leaves your body. Your out-breath takes you outside of your small self and connects you with everything that is. Let the in-breath occur naturally, but without placing any special attention on it. Rest your gaze softly on your surroundings. About half of your attention should be on your breath, while the other half is aware of the sky.
Allowing Lean back slightly and raise your gaze until the sky fills your field of vision. Open your senses to the elements. As thoughts, feelings, and perceptions arise-as they inevitably will-release them gently, without judgment. Neither follow nor suppress them. Just be a flow of pure energy in the infinite vastness of space.
It is important to keep in mind that there is no way to do this meditation "wrong." Whatever you feel, whatever you are aware of, is simply what is. Your practice is to keep letting go of the speedy, judgmental, reactive everyday mind and return to this restful, innate awareness. If you find your mind wandering or your body tensing, stop and relax. Take a break, take a deep breath, chant "AH" and start again-refreshed, vivid, wakeful.
