Greetings!
Rushing, rushing, rushing...boredom...so many things to get done - so little time, running late, feeling exhausted...a window of unexpected extra time. What to do? Fill it up to keep the busy feeling going? Allow the peacefulness of quiet? Or just wait for the next onslaught of "must do" to claim your attention. Do you know this one? From the end of July through mid-September, every activity I had planned for myself evaporated. This included social dinners, client sessions, meetings with associates - you name it - it either got cancelled or rescheduled. And as a result, I had all of this...well, time! But it was always last minute, not the sort of thing you could make plans with. I knew the universe was trying to tell me something (several things actually), but I was a little slow on the uptake. The night seven of eight women of WOW (Women on Wednesdays support/coaching group) were down for the count, I remembered - "Einstein Time!" In The Big Leap, Gay Hendricks succinctly conveys a concept that brilliant minds from Einstein to Hawking have been proposing for years: time is relative - it is bendable - it is an illusion that we try to solidify with clocks and schedules, as though it is something outside of us. We use it as a reference point to ensure our safe existence, and yet it is not steady or static. If we allow our perceptions to shift, and integrate the Einstein Time theory, Hendricks explains we must embrace "one profoundly simple truth: You're where time comes from." It reminds me a bit of the internal compass. Each of us has a navigating force within us, and it includes the malleability of time. The power to always have the time we need comes from inside, not from a clock or a schedule. To fully take ownership of this concept means never being bored again, no more rushing, or watching the clock and feeling the pressure of time closing in. Instead, we create all the time we need to accomplish the things that are important to us, and rather than exhausted, we feel energized as a result. Think I'm making it up? I'm not. I've done it, and it's amazing! I'll admit, it's harder to live in Einstein Time than to understand the principle. But when I allow myself to bend time to suit my internal clock, life shifts and I feel a wealth of abundance and possibility. I could tell you that "I don't have enough time" to amply explain Einstein Time in this short piece, but time is not the issue! And if you think about it, I bet you've already experienced this phenomenon. Remember what it feels like to fall in love, or work on a project that consumes you, or simply talking with a best friend over coffee. Where does the time go? Three hours feels like a single moment! Now imagine your list of things you don't really want to do, or an endless day at the office, or the occasion you told your son you couldn't play catch, because you just didn't have the time. These are all examples of time bending, sometimes to a molasses pace and at others approaching the speed of light. What if you created exactly the time you desire to do all the things you want to do? How liberating would that feel? I know I have not yet completely taken ownership of time. But I'm getting glimpses of it. Have time bending experiences you'd like to share? Blog them here.

The Art of Relating
Having the relationships you want!
We all relate to someone - a spouse, child, co-worker, friend, sibling, parent...
The Art of Relating series is for everyone!
In this class, April Prita Manganiello, will lead you to discover how to be more attuned in yourself and with others. "We will learn to recognize the places we get stuck and the different modes of entanglement, while learning ways to get unstuck. We will explore issues of communication, trust, intimacy, and sexuality," explains Prita.
Prita expands upon the nature of relationship. "Relationships are mirrors, a reflection of what is happening within us. That reflection can be loving or distorted. If we love and accept ourselves completely, we easily extend that same compassion to those around us. We can respect ourselves, and the other. a
Too often, we attach our ideas, desires, needs and hopes to relationships. We idealize, pathologize, romanticize, and sexualize - blocking our ability to have a healthy relationship.
Because relationships trigger automatic reactive patterns learned in childhood, it is valuable to learn to identify and release these habits, states, and feelings. We can then have loving, openhearted relationships."
The Art of Relating series will support your ability to: ~ Improve your relationship with yourself and others ~ Have good boundaries, and learn about taking and giving space ~ Move beyond relationship loops to allow understanding and acceptance ~ Identify patterns of blame and control and move toward authentic relationship ~ Notice how your regrets, needs, fears, disappointments, and hopes impact your ability to forgive and feel gratitude in the moment ~ Respond versus react to the person in front of you ~ Share a sense of co-commitment versus co-dependency ~ Create nurturing triangles with friends, co-workers, and family ~ Integrate physical acts of loving - touching, affection, pleasure, play, and sex with love and open-heartedness
For more information about these classes, including times and dates, visit the Classes & Events page. Or register now and take advantage of the prepay discount ending October 2nd.
April Prita Manganiello is a licensed mental health counselor and a licensed marriage and family therapist. Her 35+ years of working with people includes training marriage and family therapists and founding the Institute for Collaborative Counseling and Coaching, in addition to maintaining a vibrant private practice. The more I work with clients, the more I see how vital it is to allow people to share their stories about food. Food and eating has us all captivated. We spend a lot of time thinking about food, planning our next meal, preparing it, and of course eating. Last month I started an advanced education class. The group is comprised of like-minded nutrition counselors who have in-depth training in the field. As part of the course, we were assigned a video to watch, one that unexpectedly moved me to my core. I invite you to watch it here. After seeing this women tell her story, I knew I wanted to share this with you, but I'll admit, I struggled to find language that conveyed what this story meant to me. First, I was struck by an immensity of grief - the grief of disconnection from that state of "nirvana." A state we chip away at by scheduling task after task. Allowing the cultural demands of being busy and working hard to become more important than simply "being." Then an overwhelming sense of appreciation washed through me. We have two halves of our brain, because we need both! This video reminded me that we have a choice. We may tap into one or both sides, and it is the wholeness of the two that allows us to connect with ourselves and interact with the world. Isn't that amazing? I felt a tremendous relief to be reminded of that. But most important of all, I was amazed by how sharing her story was healing in it self. While Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor was speaking, I couldn't help but notice how authentic she was. The very action of telling her story was healing for her, and I sensed that, as a scientist, the hope of sharing her story with the world inspired her recovery. What does this all have to do with food??!??!? It's common to have less then positive views and feelings around food. Guilt, shame, and fear to name a few. I also see a lot of confusion around the basic question: what should I eat? Think about how these feelings contribute to your own digestion. Would you like to have a clear sense of your relationship to your food? Would you like to be free of guilt-shame-fear when you eat? Telling your story can allow healing for you, just as it did for Dr. Taylor....just as it has for me, because I've shared this with you. I know it makes a big difference to live in peace with your food and I invite you to explore this option. Throughout the month of October, I will be offering phone meetings at a discounted rate. I invite you to share your story and start your healing process now. I'd like to hear what you have to say. |

Emotional Re-Education WorkshopIf you've participated in this workshop before, you know that this weekend retreat of self discovery and connection, lead by April Prita Manganiello, provides a safe environment to explore old emotional hurts, decisions, and beliefs - cutting through the stuck places that inhibit your ability to live fully in yourself and to give and receive love. "It is a process of recognizing, releasing, and re-framing," explains Prita. "You will be encouraged to challenge limited
self-beliefs and definitions and to try on new attitudes
and ways of being." This workshop provides a healing space to melt traumas, whether from intrusions, absences, betrayals, illnesses, accidents, or losses that have been frozen in our bodies. Designed for intense emotional exploration, release, and re-education, this workshop is intended for participants who currently have the regular support of a therapist or coach. The processes are facilitated in a group setting, where we realize our concerns are shared and that we can be supported by others. It is also an opportunity to experience non-invasive bonding, a basic human need sorely neglected in our culture. Many members of The Consciousness Collaborative contribute to this retreat through co-facilitation and support of the participants. For further information about the Emotional Re-Education Workshop visit the Classes & Events page.

What's Next?! Workshop
A review of the successful 2009 series.
In January 2009, Joanne Lutz and Jamie Thurber launched the What's Next?! Workshop series. "Creating the classes was part of the journey for us. They were born of our own questions of what might be next, so you can say that we've truly walked the talk! Everything we teach, from discovering your gifts to integrating, and all of the exercises, meditations, and fun in between we've done ourselves. It's an honor to share this process of growth and discovery with others...part of our own, What's Next?!," explains Jamie.
"People often ask, 'Who is What's Next?! right for?' And while it may not be for everyone, it's a nice fit for a broad spectrum of folks. Whether you're considering making a change in your life, in the midst of a transition, or simply curious about another way to approach your world, this venue provides concrete methods to help you to continue the growth and excitement you experience during the classes," Joanne adds.
Here's what a few participants said about the series:
The only way this workshop series could have been better for me is if I'd taken it three years ago. I absolutely recommend it to others! ~MB, Lowell, MAThis workshop challenged me in new ways and I loved every minute of it. With your patience, encouragement, and a bit of nudge, you really helped to get us where we needed to go.~VT, Medford, MA
I'd recommend this to anyone who is open and looking
to reach another level of awareness and understanding about themselves
and their lives. Thank you Jamie and Joanne!
~DP, Jamaica Plain, MA

Meditation of the Month
Gibberish
Feeling tired? Consider using this meditation for fifteen minutes before bed each night to deepen your sleep.
It's not always more sleep that we require, it is a less fitful sleep. With a night of deep slumber, your days may feel energized, because your body will truly be replenishing it's stores while in rest.
This may very well be the simplest meditation you've ever tried, and because it feels a little silly, you can also have fun with it!
Begin by getting ready for bed, but before tucking yourself in for the night, sit on the edge of the bed with the lights low or off and start making nonsense language.
This will be a monotonous stream of gibberish. It's important that the sounds have no meaning to you, so if you know another language, don't use that...truly just allow the sounds to flow out.
In the beginning this may feel a bit awkward, and so you may allow yourself to start simply: rah, rah, rah, ga, ga, ga, la, la, la...you get the idea, just keep going...
As you stay with it, your conscious mind will relax and the unconscious mind will do the speaking...creating nonsense sounds that ease your conscious into a peaceful state.
At the end of fifteen minutes, crawl into bed for a deep, restful bliss - and awake refreshed and rejuvenated!
