A New Christmas Memory
When you reflect on your childhood memories of Christmas, is there a story about Jesus or about the birth of Jesus in your memory? Does that story include an awareness of the important role that Joseph played or is it mainly rooted in Mary, Jesus' mother? This holy season I invite you into a deeper awareness of the importance of Joseph within you and within the Christmas event. Metaphysically, which simply means beyond the physical, we can see Joseph representing the intellectual aspects of our nature. And with Mary representing the emotional aspects, we need both to birth a new spiritual awareness within ourselves. In the physical aspect of the story, an unwed woman with child could be stoned no questions asked. Joseph standing with Mary in this process - even though he didn't understand it, was able to open to that place of compassion and had a willingness to be directed by God. His full participation was essential to the fulfillment of the birth of Jesus just as our minds and our emotions need to fully participate in birthing more of our divinity.
So as this Christmas Season approaches, where in your own life do you need Joseph in you, willing to be directed by God? Are you willing to let compassion link with Mary in you and give full expression to unconditional love? Join me in this will you? If so, I invite you to open your mind and your heart as you give and receive gifts, attend parties, sing songs and attend services, let your soul fully anchor into the fullness of this new spiritual awareness. Let Joseph's example help you make new and dynamic Christmas memories.

 Leadership - Indiana Jones Style

In the 1989 Indiana Jones movie - "The Last Crusade" there was a scene where Indiana Jones was following directions through a cavern and came upon a huge precipice with no apparent way to cross. When he had the courage to step out, the bridge appeared.
Now as dramatic as that sounds, there is a correlation between that situation and our willingness to step into leadership. We can read all the books and take all the classes on how to be a leader, but until we are willing to take the first step into leadership, we will not be a leader.
You see, the leadership journey begins with a conscious choice. We can stand on the edge of the precipice and wonder how we will ever get to the other side or we can take a step and trust the process. Fulfilling the "role" of Prayer Chaplain Trainer/Coordinator, Minister, Manager, Supervisor, or even Prayer Chaplain does not make you a leader. You will be far more successful in the role if you make the conscious choice to also be a leader, but the choice is yours. The willingness to take the step even when the path is not clearly visible in front of you is truly the first step. An open heart, willingness to learn and develop, and trusting the process will cause the rest of the path to unfold.
You already possess what it takes to be great leader. If you've already taken that first step, congratulations and renew your commitment to be a leader who empowers and develops others as they express more of the truth of who they really are. If you are standing on the precipice, I invite you to take the first step! |
