 Embracing the Past in a New Way

"Blessed are the merciful:  for they shall obtain mercy"  Matt 5:7

It was late afternoon.  The day had been very hot, but cool dry air now began to sweep across the lake of Galilee, refreshing the eager multitudes who had come to hear Jesus teach on the mountainside.  The Master stood up, focused his attention, and said "TOOWAYHON LAMRAKHMANAY:  DALAYHON HEHOON RAKHMAY:  Blest are the merciful [compassionate] for mercy [compassion] shall return to them."  Matt. 5:7, Aramaic text.

I invite you to take a moment wherever you are and close your eyes, take a deep breath and let the words of Jesus wash over you once again - "TOOWAYHON LAMRAKHMANAY:  DALAYHON HEHOON RAKHMAY:  Blest are the compassionate for compassion shall return to them."  Jesus knew spiritual law and recognized that to those who are compassionate, compassion would return; to those who are loving, love would return; and those who are charitable would never lack.  People, although they appear as separate beings, are truly one with all life, which is indivisible.  Therefore, actions of mercy and kindness return to the doer.

I feel a deep sense of awe and at the same time responsibility in the profoundness of this statement as Jesus was speaking not only of our words and deeds but of the internal world of thought as well.  In a world where we are barraged by news reports of lack and limitation, war, conflict, disease, and external conditions over which we may come to believe we have no control - the Truth of this spiritual law is that the world is not created from the outer but from the inside out.

In "Discover the Power Within, " Rev. Eric Butterworth says "Decide the kind of world you want to experience, the kind of friends you want to have, the success you want to achieve, and the kind or conditions you would like to see manifest in your home, your neighborhood, your office - and begin to think the kind of thoughts that will draw them to you by the irresistible force of consciousness. And the wonderful corollary to this law is that when you build a consciousness of love and justice and friendliness and peace, you no longer look for or identify with any apparent enmity or injustice in others.  You actually walk in a magic circle of protection.  You draw the best kind of people to you, and you draw the very best from all the people with whom you associate."

So, what steps can we take in transforming and renewing our minds?  Begin by acknowledging the the difference between:
1.  BEING and behavior - consciously send a blessing to the Christ of another- their BEING rather than being misled by their behavior;
2.  FACTS small "t" truth and REALITY big "T" truth - facts change but spiritual REALITY of God is changeless;
3.  Knowing a small portion of something but not the whole story; and
4.  Fleeting thoughts and the Law of Mind Action (LMA) - thoughts held in mind produce after their kind.

Ask yourself if you are selective about your compassion?  Do you demonstrate compassion without reservation or judgment?  Observe what is going on when you feel your heart close vs when you maintain an open heart.  Check out your thoughts - knowing that you can choose differently at anytime.  Regardless of appearances we each have the power within to change the direction of our thoughts.

Jesus demonstrated compassion without reservation and unconditional love and he said "Blessed are the merciful:  for they shall obtain mercy."

Blessed be,

To Boycott or Not to Boycott?  That is the Question!
By Jeri Royce

So what does a Boycott have to do with the Prayer Chaplain Program, you might be asking?  It has everything to do with it - literally and spiritually.

So, let's first deal with the literal aspect.  As you may or may not know by now, Light and Love Ministries will be hosting a Prayer Chaplain and Prayer Chaplain Trainers Conference in Phoenix, Arizona (which is where we happen to be headquartered).  And as you probably do know, Arizona has been featured in the news quite a bit lately because of it's position on immigration and adoption of a new law - SB1070.   In addition, many states and individuals are taking a position of boycotting Arizona in protest of the new law.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines boycott as "to engage in a concerted refusal to have dealings with (as a person, store, or organization) usually to express disapproval or to force acceptance of certain conditions."  So, the act of boycotting Arizona is designed to cause some change in the state's position on immigration.  It is clearly a politcal issue for some and a human rights issue for others.

For Light and Love Ministries - it is a spiritual issue.  Regardless of your viewpoint on immigration or SB1070, as a Prayer Chaplain and/or a Prayer Chaplain Trainer you have a wonderful opportunity.  You have an opportunity to hold spiritual space with and for all the individuals involved in this issue knowing that God is greater than what appears and that there is an order to it all that we may not see working for the highest and best of all involved.  And in November you have the opportunity to attend the Conference and engage in a "concerted effort" to have dealings with the state of Arizona by bringing and expressing your consciousness at a time and place where it is desperately needed.  We don't see this is an obstacle - we see this as an opportunity.  At a time when others are choosing to step out - we have the opportunity to step in.

This has relevance in a larger context for us in our everyday life and for our service to the Prayer Chaplain Program, our ministries, and our communities.  Every day we choose to step out or away from circumstances or conditions that bother us, cause us discomfort, or that we just don't like OR we choose to step in and know the Truth.  We choose to know that regardless of circumstances or conditions the activity of Spirit is at work.  We choose to be a conduit to bring light where there may be darkness.  We stand in our ministries on Sunday morning and we pray with others affirming the Truth no matter what might appear in the "story."  And we form that important connection between our churches and our congregations when we do our monthly Wellness Calling which serves as a reminder to those on our calling list that God is always present.  That is what we do - we step in!

So my invitation to you is to step in - step in to your life, your ministries, your families, and your communities - with the awareness of the activity of God - regardless of appearances.  And if you are desiring connection, spiritual renewal, and inspiration, join your fellow Prayer Chaplains, Prayer Chaplain Trainers, and students of Truth from across the country and attend our Conference in November.
