Attitudes of Being

It was a very short twelve years ago, when I had the incredible opportunity to travel with a Unity group of ministers and congregants to Israel and Egypt. I have to admit that the highlight of our trip, for me, was our time in the Galilee area. Upon arrival in Galilee, I became aware of a deep soul connection. Although I'd only seen pictures of this area and read scripture about Jesus' experiences on and around the Lake of Galilee, it felt like home.

We arrived at night. When dawn broke over the lake the next morning and I could see green pastures and rolling hillsides in between structures, I could feel this incredible sense of familiarity. The tour guides took us out on the lake on a large boat. Suffice it to say; simply sharing this with you, dear reader, transports me back to that time and place.

After our morning on the lake, we traveled by bus around Galilee to Capernaum. Sitting outside under an arbor with the Lake of Galilee behind us, our group shared, out loud, Matthew 5:1-12 "Blessed are..." (The Beatitudes) We allowed the timeless energy of Jesus' words to speak to our hearts and speak it did, in volumes!

I recently had the opportunity to re-read Eric Butterworth's book, Discover the Power Within You.  Chapter 6 is devoted to delving into the Sermon on the Mount, and as he calls it "...a well-detailed, well-organized piece of masterful writing (Matthew, chapters 5 through 7)."   He also goes on to say, "Dr. George Lamsa says that he believes Jesus actually had a carefully prepared manuscript for this particular sermon, and this quite likely fell into the hands of Matthew..."  Reading this book once again, gave me the opportunity to explore these timeless attitudes of being that Jesus taught.  Each statement beginning with Matthew 5:3 through 12 says that we shall be blessed when we attain certain attitudes. There are those who refer to the Sermon on the Mount as the new law given by Jesus and even call these statements the heart of Christianity.

In the words of Jesus Christ, our way-shower, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid..." "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matt. 5:14 & 16) I invite you dear friend, into a deeper study of the Beatitudes as I believe it can enhance the expression of your light and the attitudes of your being.

Blessed be,

Lei Lanni

JB'S Corner - Volunteering
Volunteer Comittment

Every volunteer program in your ministry will have some level of comittment required depending on the program, type of work involved, and required training.

The Prayer Chaplain Program is designed to provide 38 1/2 hours of mandatory training (spread over one year) aimed at equipping your Prayer Chaplains to step into this sacred service with success.  Consequently, Prayer Chaplains are asked to make a one-year comittment to the program.  This level of comittment provides continuity for your program and the congregants you serve.

What comittment have you made as a trainer?  We believe strongly that at least a one-year comittment to serve as the Prayer Chaplain Program Trainer/Coordinator is critical to the success of your program.  You play an important role in setting the consciousness and providing support for your Prayer Chaplains.

Really good and thoughtful succession planning for your leadership role is another important component.  Who will step in to serve when you are ready to move on?  Do you have someone identified and when will they attend a Train the Trainer's Workshop so that they too are equipped for success?

And don't forget to BREATH, GO TO YOUR HEART - and trust God!

We are here to support you in all aspects of your program.  Please call or email us and let us know how we may support you.
Leadership
Leadership - A 360-Degree Proposition
Lead-Up Principle #2 - Lighten Your Leader's Load

Leading up is the 360-degree leader's greatest challenge.  Most leaders want to lead, not be led.  But most leaders also want to have value added to them.  If you take the approach of wanting to add value to those above you, you have the best chance of influencing them.  Your underlying strategy should be to support your leader, add value to the ministry, and distinguish yourself with excellence in all that you do.

The Prayer Chaplain Program by it's very design is intended to lighten your leaders load.  By empowering lay people in your ministry to serve in pastoral care by supporting with prayer - you are extending the hearts, hands, and feet of your ministry's leadership.  So, in addition to serving the Prayer Chaplain Program with ease, grace, and love, how else do you lighten your leader's load.  Do your own job well first.  When you find a problem, provide a solution.  Tell leaders what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.  Go the second mile and do more than is asked.  Also, stand up or stand in for your leader whenever you can.
