Kick-off event at the Yakima Valley Museum

The third annual Yakima Big Read will launch on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Yakima Valley Museum with a special event featuring live birds from the Raptor House Rehabilitation Center.  The live falcons and other raptors will be visiting the museum because of this year's Big Read novel, The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett.  Attendees who pledge to read The Maltese Falcon will receive a free copy of the book during the kick-off event.  Yakima Big Read is presented by Yakima Valley Libraries in partnership with Allied Arts of Yakima, Yakima Valley Community College, Yakima Valley Museum, and Radio KDNA. For more information and a calendar of events, see yakimabigread.org.
Into the Infinite: The Art of Richard C. Elliott

Dick Elliott
Glitter Dancer
Richard C. Elliott
1985-1987
Now through December 23, 2009

This exhibit displays a broad range of artwork that utilizes media such as neon, glitter, reflectors, and paint to express the artist's personal understanding of time, space, light, image, and human awareness of the world around us. In Elliott's 1999 essay, An Infinite Point in Time, the artist discusses an epiphany in the 1980s that changed his approach to art and defined the signature style that would guide his work for the remainder of his career.
