Saturday, May 23, 2009 10:00am to 12:00pm
This Saturday the museum will begin Art Saturdays-special art days at the museum just for families. The first workshop will be Parent/Child Drawing. Following a
docent-led tour of The Human Touch exhibition, families will be treated
to a short drawing lesson, including modern drawing techniques.
Self-created masterpieces are free and can be taken home.
The Human Touch: Selections from the RBC Wealth Management Art Collection exhibition is a collection of works that focus on the human
figure. This exhibition introduces new ways of thinking about who we
are and how we live. Many well-known artists such as Roy Lichtenstein,
Viola Frey, Chuck Close, Jim Dine, and Roland Fischer are included.

Wonders of Light
|
|
Nancy Stewart and MaryLee Sunseri returned
to the museum this week with an all new storytelling and song program called
Wonders of Light. The program was designed to help students learn about natural and
artificial light.
From starlight to sunlight, candelight to neon, light
is part of our everyday lives. Students
learned about the role light has played in the history of Yakima,
including agriculture and urban development, and how light can be used
in the future in energy conservation and new technologies. Nancy and
MaryLee presented traditional songs, but most were written
specifically for this venue.
A special thank you to the Yakima Sunrise Rotary for their support of this program.
