Hal & Mary Skinner

Memorial Service Saturday, May 9, 2009 2:00 pm Stone Church
Much has already been written about the legacy that Hal and Mary Skinner have left in the Yakima Valley. Their deaths, within weeks of each other, leave a particular void in the life of the Museum. Hal was a long-time member of the Board of Trustees with a life-long interest in the heritage of his home. Mary, both before and during her legislative career, never failed to believe in-and champion-museum programs and the museum mission. I had the privilege of meeting Hal and Mary even before I moved to Yakima, as Hal was a member of the Search Committee that hired me in 1992, and over the years we shared many a latte and many a chocolate ice cream soda (with chocolate ice cream) as we discussed the fate of the free world or shared stories of our childhoods and past Valley events. It is with an especial sadness that I mark their passing, but I am also so very appreciative of both their personal friendship and their belief in the value of this museum to our communityJohn A.
