Obesity a Likely Cause of Stroke Increase Among Pregnant Women
According to the Associated Press, hospitalizations for pregnancy-related strokes rose a dramatic 54% in recent years--from 4,100 in 1994-95 up to 6,300 in 2006-07. The article notes that women who begin pregnancy with health problems, such as obesity and related conditions, double their chances of suffering a stroke during or right after pregnancy.

Bariatric Surgery Patients Succeed at Rigorous Exercise Routine
U.S. News & World Report recently reported on a study out of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center that shows most bariatric surgery patients can perform large amounts of exercise and improve their physical fitness levels. Participants included in the exercise group worked out at least five days a week and burned up to 2,000 calories a week.
